'Step Up Day' Thursday 12th December 2024
As we approach the end of the year, our Prep students are demonstrating incredible perseverance and resilience. While it’s natural for little ones to feel a bit more tired at this time of year, they continue to show up each day with enthusiasm and a positive attitude. It’s been wonderful to see their excitement for learning still shining through, whether they’re exploring new concepts in literacy and numeracy or engaging in creative play.
To add to the joy of this season, Christmas will also be threaded into learning activities to spark even more excitement.
On Thursday, 12th December, during the middle session, students will participate in Step Up Day. They will meet their new teacher for 2025 and enjoy a fun activity to get to know their new classmates.
Over the next two weeks, our Prep students will be exploring a range of exciting numeracy concepts. We will dive into the ideas of 10 more and 10 less, helping students develop a deeper understanding of number patterns. The children will also learn about grouping and arrays, which lay the foundation for multiplication and organisation skills. Additionally, we’ll focus on decomposing numbers to build number sense and flexibility.
To enhance spatial awareness, students will engage in activities centred on location, including positional language and movement. We look forward to supporting their growing confidence and enjoyment in mathematics!
In Literacy, Prep students will be exploring the key features of stories, including identifying problems and solutions, characters, and settings. They will also focus on character traits and how these shape a story. To build phonemic awareness and creativity, students will learn about alliteration and how it enhances storytelling.
Additionally, we’ll consolidate their understanding of the prefix un- and how it changes the meaning of a word (e.g., zip becomes unzip). These activities will help develop critical thinking and a deeper appreciation of language and storytelling. It’s wonderful to see their love for reading and writing grow!
As we near the end of a fantastic year in Prep, we are so proud of how far our students have come. Their curiosity, resilience, and love of learning have been a joy to witness. With only a few weeks to go, we’re excited to continue celebrating their growth and achievements. From festive activities to the excitement of Step Up Day, there’s so much to look forward to.
Warm regards,
Alex, Rhiannon, Isabella, and Kate
