Mr Adam Horne - MEDIA and DIGITAL TECHNOLOGY

Greetings Karoo-ians,

This term, our Year 3 and 4 students have taken on the exciting challenge of learning the art of filmmaking in Media and Digital Technology. Over Term 4, they have explored the filmmaking process by diving into creative planning and hands-on production.

After spending time developing story ideas and scripts, the students reached the production stage. Using costumes, props, and their imaginations, they’ve transformed their ideas into scenes ready for the camera. While filming, they have been focusing on key techniques to make their films engaging and polished, including:

  • Dialogue Shots: Alternating camera angles to capture conversations and enhance the flow of dialogue.
  • Cutaways: Adding extra detail by filming objects, actions, or reactions that support the story.
  • Establishing Shots: Setting the scene with wide, atmospheric shots to orient their audience.

Throughout the term, the students have also learned to plan their filming with the editing process in mind, ensuring their shots are smooth and cohesive. It’s been wonderful to see their enthusiasm as they bring their stories to life and work collaboratively to create their projects.

We are so proud of the creativity, teamwork, and technical skills our budding filmmakers have demonstrated this term and look forward to continuing to build on these skills next year.

Tech-tacually yours,

Adam Horne
