Congratulations Mitchell!
Congratulations to Year 10 student Mitchell Armstrong on his outstanding achievement at the recent 2026 Tenpin Bowling Australia National Junior Championships held on the Sunshine Coast in April.
Mitchell competed across the Saturday and Sunday qualifying events to earn a place in the prestigious Classic Masters competition. Finishing an incredible 9th overall, Mitchell demonstrated remarkable skill, focus and determination against some of the nation’s best junior bowlers.
We are so proud of your achievement, Mitchell, what a talent you are!
Congratulations Marwa!
Congratulations to Marwa on the exciting news that she is officially an Australian citizen. Marwa is a very kind and caring young person and we are lucky to have her become an official member of this country!
Terry Jarvis - International Artist
Locally and internationally renowned artist Terry Jarvis visited St Anne’s College to work with our junior secondary students in a series of engaging watercolour classes.
Terry demonstrated the art of watercolour painting, guiding students through the fundamentals with clarity and expertise. Students selected a landscape image from Terry’s collection and began by lightly sketching the basic shapes in grey lead. From there, they carefully mixed soft, light washes to establish base colours before gradually building detail and vibrancy in their artworks.
We thank Terry for generously sharing his exceptional skill and for taking the time to support each student individually as they developed their pieces. It was a valuable hands-on experience and a meaningful opportunity for our students to learn from a practicing artist.
Terry has also been commissioned to paint St Anne’s College, and we look forward to proudly displaying his finished work for our community to enjoy. We’ll be sure to share this with you once it is complete.
Senior Winter Sports
Congratulations to the students from Year 9-12 who represented St Anne's College at soccer, netball, basketball and clay target shooting at the GMD Senior Winter Sports Carnival last week.
A shout out to Jack Tanner who came second in the senior division of the Clay Target Shooting, scoring 13/15. Congrats Jack!
Year 10 Italian - il caffè coffee
The first lesson for this topic involved exploring moka pots (caffettiere). Students dissembled and reassembled the pots and learnt about the different parts and how they function. The first in a series of activities throughout the term where students will learn about the history of the moka pot, coffee culture in Italy and some well-known Italian recipes using coffee.
April 21 marked the very first International Moka day, a global celebration of the Italian design icon #mokaday
Throughout Term 2, the Year 10 Italian class has been exploring the topic of caffè (coffee) and Italian coffee culture. In the lead up to this lesson, students learnt about the history of tiramisù and the key ingredients used in the traditional recipe.
The lesson brought together these skills and understandings as students used their previously learnt techniques to make coffee using a moka pot before following an Italian recipe to create their own tiramisù. This hands-on experience allowed students to immerse themselves in Italian language and culture while developing practical cooking skills and confidence in following authentic Italian instructions.
Year 10 Sports Coaching
Our Year 10 Sports Coaching class enjoyed their final session at The Bucket Centre. Over the their three weeks, students had the opportunity to work with amazing coaches, including past Gators players, developing their basketball skills through a range of drills and activities.
Students thoroughly enjoyed the experience and demonstrated great enthusiasm and improvement throughout the program.
The Year 10 Sports Coaching class have had the last 2 weeks doing sessions at Aquamoves. They have experienced RPM (bike session) and Circuit training. The students have then completed an assessment on a coach reflection task, to evaluate the session.
Year 12 Business Management
Year 12 Business Management got hands-on as students swapped textbooks for frying pans to explore the elements of an effective operations system in Unit 3, Area of Study 3!
Working in teams, students planned, produced and evaluated their very own pancake production process, applying key business concepts including:
- Inputs, processes and outputs
- Quality management
- Efficiency and productivity
- Operations strategies
- Time management and teamwork
From managing ingredients and equipment to improving workflow and consistency, students experienced firsthand how businesses aim to create quality products efficiently while meeting customer expectations.
There were plenty of laughs, a few creative pancake designs, and some excellent examples of problem-solving under pressure! A fantastic practical lesson that brought Business Management to life and tasted amazing too!
Year 10 City Camp
Students attended The Big Issue Classroom, where they learnt more about homelessness and the important work being done to combat homelessness in Australia. Students were engaged in thoughtful discussions and gained valuable insight into the challenges faced by many people in our community.
The day also included a visit to the aquarium, where students enjoyed exploring the exhibits and experiencing the incredible marine life on display.
Justice Matters Camp
Four students from St Anne’s College, joining together with students from Catholic Education Sandhurst schools, attended the annual Justice Matters Camp in Ovens. The camp aims to inspire students to become agents of change locally, nationally and globally, by raising awareness amongst students of social justice issues and fostering advocacy and promoting action for justice.
Throughout the camp, students participated in a range of engaging workshops including Welcoming the Stranger (Asylum Seekers), How Do Aboriginal People Understand Justice? (Indigenous Perspectives), Celebrating All of Creation (Earthcare), I Am What I Eat (Sustainable Food), and What Do We Know About Our World? (Global Reality).
Students were challenged to identify an issue impacting their community and develop a charity-based initiative to raise both awareness and funds in support of their chosen cause. An exciting idea is in the pipeline, we look forward to seeing it come to life.
VCE Business Management
Our Year 12 Business Management students put their Operations Management skills to the test with a hands-on Skittles Forecasting Activity. Using probability, forecasting and a little bit of luck, students explored how businesses predict demand and manage inventory levels.
As different coloured “products” ran out, students discovered the challenges businesses face when forecasting customer demand and maintaining stock levels. A fun (and tasty!) way to bring Operations Management concepts to life while building critical thinking and decision-making skills.
Who knew Skittles could teach so much about business?
RISE Indigenous Pathways Program at La Trobe University
Earlier this month, Indigenous students in Years 9–12 were invited to attend the RISE Indigenous Pathways Program experience at La Trobe University. The program provided students with valuable insight into university life, allowing them to experience the campus environment, learn about the supports available to students, and make informed decisions about future study and career pathways.
Students from St Anne's College, Notre Dame College and the Emmaus campus attended the event and were warmly welcomed by the incredible Indigenous team from La Trobe University - Jake Sanders, Jacinta Traianidis and Simone Fisher.
Throughout the day, students participated in a range of interactive learning experiences, connected with other Indigenous students, and enjoyed opportunities to win prizes. The experience was both engaging and informative, encouraging students to explore future education opportunities with confidence.
Looking ahead, students will also have the opportunity to visit the La Trobe University campus to further explore university pathways and campus life.
Congratulations to Jayden Atkinson and Savannah Hooker for your attendance on the day and enthusiastic participation in all activities on offer.
Year 9 Food
Students were assigned an assessment task where they had to work in group and pick a recipe to cook. Leading up to the practical class, during the theory classes, they had to write out the recipe, and method, and also send their order of food to the teacher. Yesterday they cooked their recipe. They will then write up a reflection/evaluation next week during the theory class.
Junior Winter Sports
This week our Year 7 and 8 students competed in Winter Sports, participating in soccer, netball, basketball and clay shooting. It was wonderful to see so much fun, laughter and encouragement shared across the teams!
The netball group would like to send a very special thank you to Jodie and Jess for all their fabulous help on the day.
