We welcomed Grade 5 and 6 students from St Mel's Primary School to our college for a Discovery Session. Students enjoyed choosing from three exciting activities: sport, cooking or art, before taking part in a tour of the college.

There were lots of smiling faces throughout the day, with students fully immersed in the activities and asking plenty of great questions along the way.

New Alter Servers

St Anne’s College students, Jayze, Jianne and Catherine joined seven others to be commissioned as alter servers of the St Mel’s Parish, by Fr Ronald.

They have spent several weekends over the past month participating in training conducted by Fr Ruel and Fr Adin.

This is a pledge of their journey in their faith as they commit to serving the priest and God. As Jesus taught us, that true greatness and leadership comes from serving others.

“But among you it will be different. Whoever wants to be a leader among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first among you must be the slave of everyone else. For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve others and to give his life as a ransom for many.” Mark 10:43-45

They will now join the roster of alter servers and begin serving at the St Mel’s mass services on Sundays at either 9:30am or 5pm.

FIRE Carrier Ceremony

St Anne’s College held our annual F.I.R.E. Carrier Commissioning Ceremony. The F.I.R.E. Carrier Program (Friends Igniting Reconciliation through Education) is an important and ongoing journey within Sandhurst schools, interweaving the importance of keeping reconciliation alight within our college community and beyond.

We gathered outside on Yorta Yorta Country, surrounding a Coolamon.

The ceremony was a sacred and meaningful experience shared with special guest Michael Chisholm from Catholic Education Sandhurst, along with Kevin Cooper and his children Emily and Patrick, who welcomed us to Country and led us in a smoking ceremony.

Kevin shared the significance of fire in ceremony and culture, explaining how it is used to bring people together in shared understanding and connection. Kevin and his family also performed a Spirit Dance, telling the story of how their ancestors travelled across the land, passing down culture, stories and traditions through generations.

To be commissioned as a F.I.R.E. Carrier is to take on an important leadership role within our college community. Our F.I.R.E. Carriers are students committed to learning about Aboriginal culture and history and sharing this knowledge to promote reconciliation, understanding and respect within and beyond the college.

We thank Kevin, Emily and Patrick Cooper, along with Michael Chisholm, for sharing their wisdom and culture with our students and staff. We congratulate our newly commissioned F.I.R.E. Carriers and look forward to seeing them continue to ignite reconciliation through education and action.

May we continue to walk together in solidarity and remain committed to the ongoing journey of reconciliation.

Sorry Day Commemoration 2026

On Tuesday 26 May 2026, the Shepparton Region Reconciliation Group hosted the Sorry Day Commemoration at Monash Park. The event was created and hosted by Uncle Bobby Nicholls and Dierdre Robertson to acknowledge and remember the Stolen Generations — the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children who were forcibly removed from their families.

The commemoration included a Welcome to Country and Smoking Ceremony conducted by Dr Neil Morris, didgeridoo performances by Wilfred Stewart, guest speakers from schools across the Goulburn Valley region, and wreath laying ceremonies.

St Anne's College school captains Shrey Patel and Lillian Richardson proudly represented the College at the event. They spoke about the importance of National Reconciliation Week and Mabo Decision, delivering thoughtful speeches with confidence, maturity, and respect for the significance of the occasion.

Anthony Butts and Leonie Scott also attended the Sorry Day Commemoration in support of the event and the students involved.

Thank you to the students who assisted with creating hands for the commemoration display. Your contribution helped create a meaningful and respectful tribute for this important occasion.
