English

Last Tuesday evening during our Education Week Expo, our Speech Pathologist, Daniel Hrbolic, and I showcased a range of English learning tasks and games. These tasks are used throughout the small group work that we do with students and included the following:
- Osmo Words: Students arrange physical letter tiles to spell different words. Each correct
letter appears on the iPad screen until the entire word is revealed.
- Phonics Snakes and Ladders: Students take turns rolling the dice and moving that many spaces. When a player lands on a word, they say the sounds and read the word aloud.
- Spot It! Alphabet: Students take turns flipping over two game cards. The first person to find and name the matching alphabet letter and sound keeps the cards.
- Sequencing Story Cards: Students place the cards in order to create a story with a
beginning, middle, and end. They then explain what is happening in each card and have
a go at retelling the story.
- Rhyming Bingo: Students take turns pulling a token out of the bag and matching it to a
rhyming word on their card. The first player to match four items in a row wins.
Daniel and I both enjoyed showcasing some of the learning experiences we use with students and would like to thank all of the parents, carers, and students who attended our Education Week Expo.
We’re only a few months into the Premiers’ Reading Challenge and we can already see those book pages turning! Plus, the number of students participating in the Challenge has increased – thanks to your amazing support at home.
It has been wonderful to see so many students excited about reading and sharing books with their classmates, teachers, and families. The Premiers’ Reading Challenge encourages students to develop a love of reading while exploring a wide range of texts and authors. We look forward to celebrating students’ reading achievements throughout the year and encourage all students to continue logging the books they read.
