Mission Action Day Swim - Angus Liddell, Benilde Captain
Congratulations to Angus Liddell, whose outstanding fundraising initiative for Mission Action Day rallied the community to raise funds with his own event, MAD Swim -
and raised over $6k in the process.
The team-based swim challenge saw groups of swimmers aim to swim as far as possible over two hours. The goal was to bring the community together in support of young people in disadvantaged communities.
"I came up with the idea for the MAD Swim by wanting to do something different in fundraising. Since swimming is a big part of my life, I thought it would be a great way to turn something I enjoy into a team-based event that could involve more people. With the support of the school, swim team, and wider community, we were able to organise teams, coordinate the event, and bring it all together on the day. It’s been great to see students and local clubs get involved.
Raising such a strong amount with the support of the community has been incredibly rewarding. It shows the impact we can have when people come together, and it’s great knowing the funds will help support young people through MAD."
We're incredibly proud of Angus for everything he does to bring such a positive impact for our local community, and the communities farther afield. Bravo!
WorldSkills Australia VETiS Plumbing Competition - Luca (VCE-VM)
"I competed in the WorldSkills Australia VETiS Plumbing Competition and gave it my best effort. It consisted of fabrication of plumbing appliances and was quite difficult as I came to a roadblock with copper press and bend, which I had to work around it and make the copper fitting lower than what was required from the plans. It was a great opportunity, as I learned quite a lot on particular tools and materials that I haven’t heard of or seen before. It was a valuable experience that helped improve my skills and confidence in plumbing. "
Congratulations our student runners who represented our College at the All Schools Road Relays. All team members ran 3km each, against some of the biggest schools in Victoria from the APS, AGSV & ACC in attendance. Our boys who ran like the wind and represented our College with great pride.

"Marcus and I are proud and excited to be making our debut for the Dragons. It’s a great opportunity for us, and we’re very grateful for the support from St Bede’s College throughout our football journey."
Our very best wishes to Marcus who is recovering from an injury and was unable to play.
Anzac Day Services
Our students and staff honoured those who served and fell for our country at the ANZAC Day service at Bentleigh and Mentone RSLs. Francesco (Year 8) was one of the College's ambassadors who also spoke at the Bentleigh RSL service.
"I loved attending the ANZAC Day service - it gave me a deep sense of connection to history and the sacrifices made by those who served. Standing in silence among others, listening to the Last Post, and reflecting during the minute of remembrance created a powerful atmosphere of respect and gratitude. It made the stories I’ve learned about feel more real and personal, reminding me that the freedoms we enjoy today came at a great cost.
What stood out most was the sense of unity and shared purpose among everyone there. People of all ages gathered together, showing that remembrance continues across generations. It wasn’t just a ceremony it felt like a collective commitment to honour the past and carry forward the values of courage, mateship, and resilience. Being part of that experience left me feeling both humbled and inspired."
Thank you to all our boys and staff who participated with great respect.
VCE VM x Mordialloc Lifesaving Club - Josh (VCE-VM)
"Our class recently went to the Mordialloc Lifesaving Club for a day of activities and learning about surf lifesaving. It was a really fun experience and gave us a chance to try out skills that are important for keeping people safe at the beach.
One of the main activities was paddling out to the marker in the bay. This was challenging, but working together as a team made it easier and really exciting. It helped us understand what lifesavers do when they need to reach someone in the water quickly. We also played games where we had to perform mock rescues.
These activities were fun and educational, as they taught us how to work together, communicate, and stay safe while helping others. Some games focused on rescuing a “patient,” while others helped us practice balance, speed, and teamwork.
The visit was a great way to connect with our classmates and the local community. It showed us how important the lifesaving club is and how much effort goes into keeping the beach safe. It was a valuable experience that taught us new skills and the importance of teamwork."
Youngest Cairns Ironman Goal - Oscar (Year 12)
Our best wishes to Oscar, who is training to be the youngest competitor in the Cairns Ironman this June.
"Training for an Ironman while also balancing school and everything else going on isn’t easy, it has been a big challenge. I’m doing around 18 hours of training each week, so it takes a lot of planning and consistency to stay on top of it all. Some days are definitely harder than others, but it’s taught me how to just get things done even when I don’t feel like it. It’s helped me build better habits and stay focused, especially when things get busy.
What I like most about Ironman is how real it is. You can’t fake the work, you either do it or you don’t. I’m really looking forward to race day and seeing all the effort pay off, and just pushing through whatever comes up. I’ve started Embrace The Slog, a business which is all about that same mindset of sticking it out and doing the hard stuff."
Oscar's dedication has supported him across five marathons and an ultra marathon, teaching that real progress is "built in the quiet, uncomfortable moments where most people quit." Sensational stuff, Oscar!
