Celebrating Our Mothers: A Sacred Calling

As we approach Mother’s Day this Sunday, we pause to celebrate the profound impact of the mothers, grandmothers, and all maternal figures in our community. A mother’s role is beautifully complex - she is a protector, a first teacher, a gentle guide, and an unwavering source of comfort.

In reflecting on the vocation of motherhood, we naturally look to Mary, the mother of Jesus. Mary embraced her calling with extraordinary courage and grace. Through her gentle “yes,” she demonstrated a profound trust in God, nurturing Jesus with a love that accompanied Him from the manger to the cross. Her example reminds us that motherhood is a deeply sacred calling, rooted in selfless love and profound faith.

In honour of this special day, we invite our community to pray together with these words, adapted from our Mother’s Day Breakfast:

Loving God, we offer our deep gratitude for the gift of mothers, grandmothers, and all the special maternal figures in our lives.

Through their unconditional care and sacrifice, we first experience what it means to be Created in Love.

Like Mary, they nurture us so that we may discover our unique gifts and truly Be Who God Calls Us to Be.

We recognise that raising young people is a beautiful, sacred vocation, and that these women are Called with Purpose.

Bless all our mothers.

Grant them health, peace, and a profound sense of how much they are cherished by their children and by this College.

May they feel celebrated, renewed, and Sent with Joy.

Amen

Year 7s Discover What It Means to 'Be Lasallian'

To mark the end of the first Religious Education unit on 'Identity & Belonging,' Year 7 students gathered in the Chapel across both campuses for a special presentation led by Brother Tony Cummins, fsc. The sessions, centred around the theme of 'Being Lasallian,' providing our newest students with a deeper understanding of the rich heritage they have stepped into here at the College.

Brother Tony shared engaging stories and insights into the life and enduring work of the De La Salle Brothers. He unpacked the global Lasallian mission, helping the students understand that their sense of 'belonging' goes far beyond the College uniform. They learned that to be Lasallian is to be part of a worldwide family - one that is deeply committed to faith, service, inclusive community, and respect for all persons.

For our Year 7s, navigating a new school environment is a profound journey of discovering their own identity. Brother Tony’s presentations was perfectly timed to show them that their personal journey is supported by a tradition spanning over 300 years.

We extend our sincere thanks to Brother Tony Cummins for his time, wisdom, and for helping lay such a strong spiritual foundation for our Year 7 students as they begin their journey with us.

Year 7 Retreats Commence: Exploring Faith, Service, and Community

This week marks the commencement of our Year 7 Retreat program, which will continue to run across Term 2 and into Term 3. As a vital component of the College’s faith development program, all students in Year 7 participate in a Retreat Day, hosted on site at the College.

Conducted per pastoral group, the retreat provides our youngest students with a day out of the normal classroom for a dedicated time of activities, prayer, and reflection.

The primary aim of this retreat is to serve as an introduction to the College’s Lasallian tradition. Throughout the day, students will explore our core pillars of Faith, Service, and Community. The thoughtfully designed program includes a talk from the De La Salle Brothers emphasising the importance of the larger Lasallian community, as well as engaging discussions surrounding social justice and service at the College. The day also features a dedicated session in the Chapel, allowing students a quiet space to reflect on faith in everyday life.

We look forward to seeing each homeroom experience this foundational step in their spiritual journey at St Bede's College.
