Â
đ Important Dates & Reminders
All important dates and events are available on our Compass Calendar. Please check the calendar regularly to stay up to date.
Â
- Please remind students to bring their âred bagâ back to school with Library books inside ready to return on your child's allocated Library day.
- Students are required to bring their take-home bags to school daily. Please always check inside these for important information, notices or student work.Â
- Please support your child's reading journey by practising reading with the â'Letter Tiles', 5 minutes daily. Begin at 2 letter words (e.g. it, an, in) and slowly build up to 5 letter words (e.g. snips, spins, spits.)
LiteracyÂ
In our The Eleventh Hour unit, students have been developing their understanding of how texts can be used to share information while building their comprehension skills. Throughout the lessons, we have focused on identifying key ideas, discussing what we have learned, and are beginning to organise information clearly.
As part of this learning, students have also been exploring the mystery within the story, carefully looking and listening for clues to help work out who stole the feast. This has encouraged them to pay close attention to details, ask thoughtful questions, and share their reasoning with others.
It has been wonderful to see students growing in confidence as they contribute ideas, use new vocabulary, and engage enthusiastically in both discussions and problem-solving.
Â
Preview - Children will begin reading the picture book 'Fang Fangâs Chinese New Year.' They will also be starting their new Knowledge Rich unit âLetâs Explore Our Worldâ learning about what life is like for children all around the world.Â
Mathematics
Â
Maths -Â Over the past fortnight students have been learning about partitioning numbers up to 10 in a five or ten frame. Students have been practising breaking numbers into smaller parts (for example, seeing 5 as 3 and 2, or 4 and 1), helping them build an understanding of partâwhole relationships and the idea that numbers can be represented in different ways.Â
Â
We have also been practising reading, writing and counting numbers up to 20, with a focus on recognising numerals, forming them correctly, and developing confidence when counting forwards and backwards. These experiences support students in building fluency and a strong understanding of number sequences.Â
Â
Preview- We will continue learning to partition numbers into two and three parts. Through hands-on activities, students will practise finding all the different combinations that make a number (for example, 6 can be made as 5 and 1, 4 and 2, or 3 and 2 and 1). They will be encouraged to represent their thinking using materials such as counters, drawings, five and tens frames, which will help them visualise how numbers can be split and recombined.Â
Wellbeing- Resilience, Rights and Respectful RelationshipsÂ
In Respectful Relationships, we have been learning about emotional literacy. We are building our understanding of how to get to know each other and how to keep our bodies safe. We explored the idea that everyone has an invisible âbubbleâ around them. To help everyone feel safe in the classroom and when moving around, we practised moving carefully around the space without âpoppingâ each otherâs bubble, learning to respect personal space. We also learnt about different emotions and played a fun âGuess the Emotionâ game to help us recognise how others might be feeling. As part of our learning, we discussed how we are all different and what makes each of us special and unique.
Â
Preview-Â We will be exploring and learning about our personal and cultural strengths and what makes us unique.Â
Curious Corner -Â Our Curious Corner has been a wonderful space for exploration, with students actively engaging in the different sections and making connections to our learning. Whether investigating, creating, or discovering something new, children are showing curiosity and enthusiasm as they deepen their understanding through hands-on experiences.
Â
Colour run: Our Preps had an unforgettable experience participating in their very first Colour Run! From start to finish, they approached the event with enthusiasm and wonderful sportsmanship. It was fantastic to see them embrace the fun, cheer each other on and dive into the colourful excitement with such positive energy. Â
PMP -Â Our Prep PMP program has kicked off with great energy, with students enthusiastically engaging in a circuit-style approach to developing both fine and gross motor skills. Through a variety of rotating activities, children are building strength, coordination, and control, whether itâs balancing, jumping, or various hand movements. This dynamic setup not only keeps students motivated and active but also supports their confidence as they explore movement in a fun and structured way. It will be wonderful to see their growing independence and willingness to challenge themselves develop each session.
Mother's day morning!
Thank you to all the mums, grandmothers and special visitors who joined us for our Motherâs Day morning. We truly appreciate you taking the time to celebrate with us. We hope you enjoyed reading the heartfelt cards and bookmarks the children created, and sharing in the activities together. It was wonderful to see so many smiles and special moments shared. Wishing everyone a very happy Motherâs Day!
