As team lists are not consistently provided to the College, we ask families to email sac.absences@cns.catholic.edu.au to let us know if your son is participating in these carnivals. This ensures his attendance is recorded accurately.
Our Bill Turner Football squad participated in the regional Gala Day on Friday 8 May, at Southside Comets. The squad played a strong brand of football and came away with strong wins against Newman Catholic College (8–1) and Bentley Park College (16–1). The game of the day was Saints against Cairns High. Despite having opportunities, we lost 2–1 in what was a quality match between two excellent teams. Our squad, despite being much younger than Cairns High, showed strong teamwork, composure, and determination against an older opposition. We look forward to seeing what the squad can produce next season.

The Youth Team AFLQ Cup squad delivered a dominant performance at the Cairns Regional Carnival, going undefeated throughout the day to claim the championship title in impressive fashion.
The boys showed great discipline and determination from the opening bounce, remaining focused on maintaining their structure and sticking to the game plan in every match. Their hard work and teamwork were reflected on the scoreboard, with convincing wins over Newman College (59–0) and St Mary’s (66–0).
The team saved one of their best performances for the grand final, overpowering Smithfield State High School 66–0 to secure the Cairns Regional Carnival title.
It was a fantastic team effort across the entire day, with every player contributing to the success through strong pressure, teamwork and consistent effort.
The boys will now progress to the North Queensland Finals in Townsville next term, where they will look to continue their outstanding form against the region’s best teams.

The Junior AFLQ Cup Squad competed in the regional championship carnival. The team played against five other schools from the region: Redlynch College, Gordonvale State High School, Trinity Bay State High School, St Andrew's Catholic College and Newman Catholic College.
Saints began the day with dominant victories over Redlynch (74-1) and Gordonvale (78-0). A tough match against Trinity Bay followed with the boys going into half time behind, however, the boys responded well and kept Trinity Bay scoreless in the 2nd half to come away with the 26 -13 victory.
Following on from this win, the team rounded out the day with two more wins to finish the carnival undefeated and progress to the North Queensland Championship in Townsville next term. Congratulations to all students, deserved winners after working extremely hard at training last term and in the lead up to the carnival.
We thank Brodie Sexton from Brodie Sexton Athletic Performance for all his assistance in preparing the boys for the carnival.
Thank you to our other generous sponsors:

Our CISSA squads continued their strong run of form in the latest round of fixtures, securing impressive victories across our sports against St Andrew's. The AFL team put on a clinical performance to defeat their opponents 80–9, while the basketballers secured a commanding 85–52 win. On the touch field, Saints proved too sharp, crossing the line for a convincing 15–7 victory. The football and volleyball matches, with both squads digging deep to secure hard-fought 1–1 draws to wrap up a successful round of CISSA sport.

The annual St Augustine’s Athletics Carnival was held on Monday of Week 4 at Barlow Park. On a day that brings the College community together and demonstrates the best of house spirit, sportsmanship and participation, this year’s edition was no different highlighting the talent and excellence our students possess. The day saw a closely fought tussle between Heavey and Walter, with Reginald closing with a strong performance in the relays to make it a three-way contest for the overall honours.
However, 2026 marked a significant milestone for Heavey, where for the first time since 2002 they were victorious, placing their house onto the current College Athletics Shield for the first time. Congratulations to Heavey house captain Jack Tubb, and all of Heavey for breaking the drought.
A special mention goes to our record breaker Mason Park in Year 7 who broke the 12 Years shot put record with a throw of 9.15m improving the previous mark by current Year 10 student Eli Mauro. Congratulations to all students who placed in events or simply gave it their best – this spirit is what the day is all about. Finally, a sincere thank you to the staff who ensured the carnival ran smoothly from start to finish.

The annual College Cross Country carnival took place at the Cairns Showgrounds on the final Wednesday of Term 1. On a wet April day, which thankfully took the heat out it for the runners, the house captains and their teams began the carnival with spirited renditions of their war cries. What followed were strong, exciting and enthusiastic races across each age group, with plenty of house support and encouragement from beside the track and in the grandstands. The final result was incredibly close with only four points separating first and second place.
Congratulations went to Heavey claiming victory in the first carnival of the year.

St Augustine's was fortunate to have a visit from the Bulls Masters. Joe Dawes and Nathan Reardon spent time with our senior cricketers, offering some some helpful coaching advice. Thank you Bulls Masters for this opportunity.

Last Friday was an exciting day for our Saints netball team as they took to the court for the Vicki Wilson Cup. The boys had a fantastic time competing against other secondary schools in the region, showing great teamwork, energy and determination in every game.
They played brilliantly all day, winning every match, and finishing as overall champions of our region! Big congratulations to the team for their outstanding performance, positive attitude, and excellent sportsmanship. Our MVP of the carnival was Tommy King, who shone in his role as goalkeeper. His strong defensive efforts and impressive rebounding made it difficult for opposing teams to score.
