Foundation students have been learning about pitch, dynamics (loud and soft) and dynamics (fast or slow). As an example, they have used high or low voices in the story of The Three Little Pigs.
Year 1 students have focussed on beat and rhythm, and pitch and melody. For example, students have examined stepwise ascending or descending patterns in the song Ipsy Wipsy Spider.
Year 2 students this month have focused on pitch and melody. They have created two and three note melodies and created sound symbols. For example, students have moved and responded to the song The Icecream Train, and have sung to the three note melody song If You Want.
Year 3 students in May have focussed on pitch and pattern and exploring sound. They have practised beat grouping in threes and fours. As an example, they have improvised to the three beat song I Like to Sing and have also improvised to the four beat song Play Me A Note. They have also made long and short sounds on musical instruments and explored atmospheric sounds with the song The Horseman.
Year 4 students have focussed on pitch, melody and harmony. As an example, they have built an arrangement using beats and riffs to the song Hot Summer Night, and they have sung different vocal parts in the arrangement of the song There’s a Part for Everybody.
Year 5 & 6 students have focused on the music concepts of Call and Response and Harmonies. In our study of Pacific Harmonies, students have created a performance piece incorporating melody, harmony, ambiance and movement. For example they have studied Call and Response in the song Let’s Make a Hangi and examined the Held Harmonies in the song Ukelele Bay.
On Thursday 18 June, Black Rock Primary School Glee Club Choir will be performing at Beaumaris Secondary School. Our Glee Club members have been rehearsing hard for this performance.
