Just Start It

Just Start It Success

The Year 11 General Business Management and Enterprise students have successfully completed the Just Start It (JSI) Program. This semester, they have worked closely with experienced business mentors to develop technology-powered startup ideas from concept to product. The culmination of the program saw students pitching their final startup ideas to a panel of judges.

We are thrilled to announce that one of the teams, 'GO', have advanced to the Grand Final Gala in August with the chance to win a $5000 prize.

'GO' have developed a concept to address a common issue among teens in Perth. By providing a platform that helps them discover local activities, matching their interests and facilitating coordination with friends, 'GO' aims to combat boredom and enhance engagement in the community. The online initiative is not only beneficial for teens but also for small businesses in Perth. By showcasing local activities and events, the application can help businesses attract more customers and boost the local economy. Additionally, getting teens involved in community activities can contribute to their personal development and social well-being.

I get to visit many schools and many classrooms, and I am driven by how places, spaces and people make me feel. St Norbert College is one of the most welcoming spaces I have the pleasure of attending. I have had five teams at St Norbert College this year, each picking a problem so worth tackling. Each team dug down to create solutions worthy of an audience and pushed their own personal boundaries to stand up and pitch truly great concepts. Out of the five teams pitching in the Semi Finals, three were short-listed and one team has been awarded the opportunity to pitch at the Gala. Not easy, considering there are 100 teams from other WA schools competing. To see young people, understand things that need fixing in our world, and then create solutions that are better than what exists is an assurance that our world will be in good hands moving forward. - Ms Lainey Weiser, one of the Directors of Just Start it, who was on the pitch judging panel

The two other shortlisted teams were 'Rebootify', who created a technology platform that coordinates the management and recycling of e-waste, and 'Bullseye Budgeting', who devised an app to help teenagers plan their spending and budgeting.
