Triumph at RACI Titration Stakes
We are thrilled to announce the outstanding achievement of our Year 12 Chemistry students Jia Ying Chen, Shelna Sony and Sarah Abood at the Royal Australian Chemical Institute's (RACI) Titration Stakes!
The competition, held on Tuesday 18 June, was a true test of the students' knowledge and practical skills in acid-base chemistry. They faced stiff competition from over 220 students across Western Australia, all vying to showcase their talents. The stakes were high, with the final results hinging on accuracy and precision.
This year's competition offered a unique experience. Schools from across the state competed at either Curtin University, ECU Joondalup or even from their own regional locations. This provided our scientists with the exciting opportunity to work in a real university lab and connect with students from other schools and universities.
We're incredibly proud of the students' dedication and enthusiasm throughout the competition. A huge congratulations to Shelna Sony and Sarah Abood who were awarded High Distinctions for their exceptional titrations! Their results, achieving within 0.5% of the expected value, are a true testament to their remarkable abilities.
Finally, a big thank you to Mrs Merryl Byfield for her willingness to transport the team to Curtin University. We would also like to extend our gratitude to lab technicians Ms Debbie Nugent and Ms Patricia Re for their invaluable contribution in preparing the practice solutions and ensuring all the glassware was spotless for the competition.
Last week, I participated in the RACI Titration Competition, and it was a fantastic experience. I had lots of fun with Jia and Shelna, and I'm truly grateful for the opportunity to be a part of it. Working together, we navigated the challenges of accurately determining solution concentrations. The event was filled with excitement, teamwork and learning, making it an unforgettable experience - Sarah Abood (Year 12)
Representing the College at the RACI Titration Competition this year was an honour! It was an immersive opportunity to apply our class content practically in a fast-paced but rewarding environment. Comparing Curtin's elevated laboratories was an eye-opening experience with what our future studies looked like with Chemistry, and I would recommend anyone studying ATAR Chemistry to try this out! I'd like to thank Ms Nugent for preparing our practices, Ms Byfield for driving the ELF and Miss Magee for accompanying us for this wonderful night - Jia Ying Chen (Year 12)
We're so proud of our scientific stars, their hard work and exceptional talent truly shine!
