A Busy Term for the Specialised Football Program

It has been an incredibly busy and exciting term for our Specialised Football Program (SFP), as we entered teams in multiple School Sport Western Australia (SSWA) and Associated and Catholic Colleges (ACC) competitions. Representing the College with determination and passion, our students truly gave it their all on the field.

While most of the results did not go our way, our teams consistently demonstrated their commitment and gave some of the top schools a run for their money with solid performances. We now progress to the knockout stages for both the SSWA and ACC competitions in Term 3. We're hoping that the dedication and hard work our students have invested in class time and at morning training sessions will lead to some more positive results next term.

On Thursday 20 June and Friday 21 June (Week 10), we held our SFP trials for 2025. It was fantastic to see a large number of students applying for both the SFP and the Blessed Emily Podoska Football Scholarship. Applicants were put through their paces with a number of possession-based gameplay drills. The trials showcased some impressive talent and enthusiasm, promising a bright future for our SFP.

A big thanks to Mr Rama Kabwe (Coach) and Mr Wally Aquino (Goalkeeping Coach) for all of their hard work so far this year. I greatly appreciate all of their support, as do our students and parents.

I would also like to thank everyone who has contributed to our SFP in one way or another this term. We look forward to seeing our teams continue to develop and succeed in the upcoming stages of the competitions.

On Thursday 20 June, we had four teams compete in the SSWA Netball Elimination Carnival at the Perth Netball Association. We had two Year 10 Boys team, one Year 8 Boys team and one Year 8 Girls team progress through after performing strongly in their previous carnivals.

Our first Year 10 Boys team demonstrated exceptional skill and teamwork at their two carnivals, showcasing their prowess and displaying a keen understanding of strategy in every game. Their strong performances earnt them commendable victories and highlighted their commitment to excellence on the court. After extensive training in Term 2, they improve their skills and attitude towards netball, seeing them finish second place in the state for Middle (Years 9 and 10) Boys Netball. Not to be outdone, our second Year 10 Boys team also had two stellar carnivals, demonstrating tremendous growth and sportsmanship. Their competitive spirit and impressive results are a testament to their unity and perseverance. Their hard work and dedication saw them finish fourth place in the state for Middle (Years 9 and 10) Boys Netball.

Our Year 8 Boys team enthusiastically embraced the fundamentals of netball and made a significant impact in their pool. It was really great to see their skills and understanding of the rules develop throughout the carnivals. Their positive attitude and eagerness to learn have set a promising foundation for the future. Finally, our Year 8 Girls team, guided by their coaches, have showcased exceptional teamwork and sportsmanship. Their dedication to netball shines through in their spirited performances and strategic gameplay. They have competed fiercely in every game, embodying the values of perseverance and camaraderie.

These teams have all contributed to the vibrant sports culture at the College, embodying the values of sportsmanship, dedication and teamwork. We also wish our Senior Girls Netball team all the best as they progress through to the Round of 16 where they will take on Kennedy Baptist College on Tuesday 23 July at 2pm.
