Croydon Hills will be celebrating Pride Day on Friday the 14th of June. Students are invited to wear a splash of colour on the day. Please check your weekly compass posts next week (week 8) for details about the lesson your child will complete in class.

Peaceful Kids

The 'Peaceful Kids' program is a Mindfulness and Positive Psychology based program to lessen anxiety and stress and increase resilience in children. This program helps children to build their emotional resilience so they are better equipped to deal with the day to day stresses that life brings them.

During Term 2, we have offered the program to a small selection of our Year 1 students. We run the program in small groups of 6 and it has been wonderful seeing how much the students are learning and putting their new skills into action.

Some of the things that the students have or will learn include:

  • To identify how they are feeling, learn names for feelings and gain more insight into their own feelings.
  • That anxiety and worry are normal feelings that everyone experiences.
  • To learn how to calm themselves down when they are feeling anxious through meditation.
  • Sharing worries in a supportive environment.
  • Explaining worrying.
  • How worrying makes us feel
  • How worrying affects our bodies
  • Identifying our body sensations when we get worried or stressed
  • How the brain is affected when we worry
  • Normalising anxiety - That worry is a normal emotion like all other emotions
  • How Mindfulness can calm them down and lessen worrying
  • How to nurture themselves every day with Mindfulness
  • Understanding Mindfulness

If anyone would like to practise mindfulness at home I have attached links for you to look into.
