Primary Gary McSweeney Cup & Rugby Union Trials
Last Friday 31st March, many of our talented Stage 3 students attended the Gary McSweeney Cup and Armidale Diocesan Rugby Union trials in Tamworth. The boys played three highly contested games against St Nicholas Tamworth, St Francis Xavier's Narrabri and the Combined Pirates team. The boys showed tremendous spirit and determination throughout the games but unfortunately went down narrowly in each game.
Many of our talented girls also trialled for the Armidale Diocesan Girls team. Eliza Amos, Maggie Ball, Matilda Ward, Sascha Bailey played in the Combined Pirates team. They played tough games against St Francis Xavier's Narrabri, St Philomena's Moree and St Nicholas Tamworth. The girls beat St Philomena's and went down narrowly against St Nicholas Tamworth and St Francis Xavier's Narrabri.
A big congratulations to Bruce Antees, Joey Sullivan who were selected in the Armidale Diocesan boys team and Eliza Amos, Maggie Ball, Matilda Ward and Sascha Bailey who were selected in the Armidale Diocesan girls team. The boys will travel to Forbes later in the term to attend the Polding Rugby Union Trials and the girls will travel to Sydney to trial for the Polding Rugby 7s team.
A big congratulations to all of our players who attended the day and many thanks go to Mr Poole and Mr Sullivan for helping coach the boys on the day. Thank you also to Mr O'Donnell and Mr Fleming for managing our teams on the day, it is greatly appreciated.
Diocesan Soccer Gala Day
On Thursday 6th June selected secondary students travelled to Inverell to compete in a round robin competition of Soccer.
St Philomena's were up against some tough competition including McCarthy Tamworth, O'Connor Armidale, St Mary's Gunnedah and Holy Trinity Inverell. It was great to see such strong teamwork and sportsmanship amongst all students. We are so proud of your efforts! Well done, everyone. Thank you to Mr McKenzie and Miss Glover for coaching our team on the day.
