Last night the SCC Year 11/12 Information Evening 2025 was held at the College. It was an informative evening and enjoyed by all who attended.

At SCC, we recognise that each student is an individual. They all develop at different rates and have strengths in different areas. Teachers regularly adjust class tasks to ensure that students can access learning at a level and in a form that is appropriate to them. They will also, at times, make changes to assessment tasks. They may provide additional resources or scaffolding, change the format, or require students to only complete set sections of a task.
Students are also encouraged to speak to or email their teacher if they feel they would benefit from some adjustments. There are a small number of students who, for example, find spoken tasks incredibly challenging, especially when required to address an audience of their peers. While we want students to stretch themselves and learn to overcome obstacles, we are mindful that learning is a journey. Students can request an adjustment to a presentation task but must do so at least two days before the due date. The student and teacher can then negotiate whether the student may present the task in written form or submit a recording of their presentation.
If a Year 7 or 8 student is not feeling confident enough to approach the teacher, parents/carers are welcome to email the teacher on behalf of their child. We hope that Year 9-12 students would be able to communicate directly with their teachers. If they are feeling nervous, parents/carers may help them to write an email to the teacher.
As a BYOD school, our teachers plan for students to have working devices each lesson. That means that students need to ensure their devices are charged and functional each day. Devices are not the centre of our lessons but they are regularly utilised to enhance student learning through research, access to platforms such as digital texts and giving students diverse options for developing and demonstrating their learning.
While we have IT support on site for managing minor issues, we are not able to provide students with back-up devices should their own malfunction or be damaged. It is worth considering in advance options if a student’s device becomes unusable for a time as it is not feasible for students to be without a device for an extended period while their device is being repaired or replaced. Not having a device for an long period of time can adversely impact a student’s learning.
Using largely cloud-based platforms such as Microsoft365 and Schoolbox means that if there comes a time for students to change or upgrade devices during their Secondary journey, they will be able to easily access their files on other devices easily.
This term in our Year 7 Health class, we are diving into the world of nutrition! Our focus is on understanding how to make healthy and nutritious decisions when selecting meals.
Students will learn the essentials of reading food labels, enabling them to make informed choices about what they eat. By exploring the components of a balanced diet and the importance of various nutrients, we aim to empower our students with the knowledge they need to maintain a healthy lifestyle.

It’s been a great start to the year for Quest and Outdoor Ed students with fantastic weather for camps and a range of outdoor activities. We have had the opportunity in Term 1 to maximise our time in the water with surfing, coasteering and snorkelling.

Over the next few weeks we are looking forward to exploring the geology of Bruny Island and Hastings Caves, and kicking off the Bronze component of the Duke of Edinburgh Award.
