DISTRICT CROSS COUNTRY RESULTS:

Tuesday last week, in relatively good Cross Country conditions, 78 of our students represented our school at the District Cross Country. For many students this was their first time. Competing against 6 other schools and with up to 60 students in a race, all of our students gave 100% effort and performed to their best. Congratulations and well done to those who competed and thank you to all the parents who came along to support all our students.

WHAT'S HAPPENING IN THE PE CLASSES!!

Year 5 Water Safety:

This week, Year 5 students have started the first of the four Aqua Packages, which are completed during Year 5 and Year 6.

After completing a swimming assessment, students were split into groups and participated in 3 different activities:

  1. Practising safe entries into water and retrieving submerged objects.
  2. Learning how to fit a PFD (Personal Floatation Device), swimming in a PFD, as well as fitting a PFD whilst treading water.
  3. Working as a team to paddle an inflatable boat, safe entry in and out of the boat, existing from a capsized boat.

The final session involved students completing many of the skills whilst wearing clothes.

The purpose of this program is to provide students with life skills that will not only keep them safe in an Aquatic environment, but also to expose them to a variety of Aquatic activities that they can enjoy in their own personal life.

nb. More photos can be seen on the PE/Sport notice board.

Year 3 - Jump Rope For Heart

Year 3 students have thoroughly enjoyed the Skipping unit. Skipping is a fantastic activity which helps to develop an individual's aerobic endurance. A simple skipping rope, a small space and 5 minutes each day is a great way to work on one's fitness.

All students have embraced the challenge of developing their individual skipping skills - demonstrating forward and backward skipping as well as many tricks - criss cross, galloping, partner work, "mini me" and many more tricks that students have created.

Year 4, 5 and 6 - Fitness Testing

Students have been participating in tests to assess their fitness in the various fitness components - aerobic endurance, upper body strength, hamstring and shoulder flexibility and abdominal strength and endurance. The purpose of this unit is to identify student's strength and weaknesses in their fitness and to try and focus on maintaining their strengths and improving their weaknesses.

Foundation, Year 1 and Year 2

Our junior students have been developing the major fundamental motor skills (run, hop, skip, throw, catch, ball bounce, kick and strike) which underpin the learning for more complex physical movements in later years.

FOOTBALL ON THE SCHOOL OVAL

Unfortunately, football on the oval at lunchtime and recess was banned from Wednesday to Friday; this is a result of students not following the school rules.

Safety of all students is our highest priority and therefore to avoid injury, the school has a rule that only "tag" is allowed as a tackle. This means no grabbing, "bear hugging" or sling tackles. Unfortunately, some students fail to follow these rules. If your child enjoys playing football at recess and lunchtime, it would be appreciated if you could remind them of the school's expectations.

As of next year, 9 v 9 football will be the only format that School Sport Victoria will be allowing. This format also only allows "tag" as a tackle, therefore, students will need to start adjusting if they wish to play Interschool Football in Year 6.
