Thrive & Flourish

Dear Parents and Caregivers,

I hope the week has started off well for you. Winter is now upon us which means shorter days, colder weather and lots of bugs and chills going around. For those currently unwell, we hope for a speedy recovery for you.

For those families who’ve experienced a recent bereavement, please know you are in the prayers and thoughts of all in our community. For those who’ve welcomed a new addition to the family, we extend our warmest congratulations on this happy occasion.

Bike Masters and Fantastic Fixers.

At our assembly last week, Mr Nilbett shared with the school some of the fabulous achievements of the Bike Masters and Fantastic Fixers groups. It was wonderful to see the end result of their work, with two bikes fully restored by each group. Along with this, it was great to hear from the children what their participation in the program had given them, including new skills for how to fix things.

Congratulations to the children in both groups:

At assembly, some of the children were able to share what they had learnt from the program. Below are their reflections:

Emerson Hudson: I enjoyed working as a team and learning how to use different tools.

Aylah Daldy: I liked working with the group and I learnt how to use tools properly.

Ruby Draper: My favourite thing was spray painting the bike and I learnt how to sand the frame.

Logan Cook: I enjoyed learning and exploring new ways of fixing bikes.

Levi Bourke: I enjoyed working with other people as a part of a team.

Sammy Alampi: I enjoyed working as part of a team and also learning how to use the tools.

Ollie Chessells: My favourite part was working as a team and learning to use the right tools for the right parts.

Mason Jecs: I learnt how to fix a flat tyre and was able to do it at my house.

Judd Wellington: I learnt how to use the proper tools to fix things as well as how to work in a team.

Ashlee Kettels: I liked working with tools and finding ways to use new ones.

Dante Matarese, Harry Whitford and Phillip Mercuri absent when interviewed for the newsletter.

A huge thank you to Mr Nilbett for organising the program and supporting the children in the groups. It is such a great opportunity for the children to learn skills for fixing bikes, as well as working together as a team and developing cooperative skills.

For those children who did not get to share their insights at assembly, they will have the chance to do so at a following assembly.

Attendance

Parents/guardians are responsible for making sure that all children attend school every day unless they are too unwell, in which case the school must be advised. If families are going to be away for an extended period, (eg: family holiday), we ask that prior notice is given to the school, so that if parents wish, a learning program can be put in place for their children.

If parents would like support with this, please feel free to contact a member of the Wellbeing Team. We thank you for your support with this.

Wellbeing Support

Wellbeing support can be accessed in the following ways:

  • Any staff member can arrange for a referral to Student Wellbeing if they have concerns about a student’s wellbeing.
  • Parents can also request support for their child/ren by contacting a member of the wellbeing team at school.

Email:

Tony McDonald: tmcdonald@shtatura.catholic.edu.au

Felicity Bryant: fbryant@shtatura.catholic.edu.au

Deb Turvey: dturvey@shtatura.catholic.edu.au

  • At times, a student may be referred to an external support service. We also respect the fact that some students and parents may prefer to seek professional support independent from the school setting. In such cases, Sacred Heart values working collaboratively with external support services. We encourage parents/carers to communicate with the school if there is a significant issue affecting their child’s wellbeing.

If ever you need help sorting out personal or family issues, give CatholicCare Victoria a call.  They offer many services to all members of our community – ALL FREE.

Have a great fortnight everyone.
