Message from Liz

Our community has enjoyed an excellent couple of weeks, first celebrating Catholic Education Week and then embracing Wellness Week. We've happily greeted the Rochester Playgroup, Rochester Preschool, and families interested in joining our community. We've honored mothers and the special individuals who fulfill the maternal role in a child's life, alongside commemorating Do It For Dolly Day.

Last Friday, we had the pleasure of hosting Kate Fogarty, Director of Catholic Education Sandhurst, and Tony Morwood, a member of the CESL Board. We seized the chance to give them a tour of our refurbished school and engage in discussions regarding the future goals of our families to enhance our environments for all children.

Our school priorities are centred around People, Learning, and Property, with some areas overlapping, emphasising our holistic approach to catering to the needs of everyone in our community.

  • People: Our ongoing priority is nurturing the wellbeing of everyone at St. Joseph's – children, staff, and families alike.
  • Learning: We remain committed to advancing student outcomes through our continued focus on learning.
  • Property: Our aim is to develop play areas that facilitate meaningful connections among all children

Attendance:

Attendance data suggests that a significant portion of our students are experiencing low attendance rates, which is troubling considering the dedicated efforts of our teachers in tailoring learning experiences to meet the needs of all children.

Recent data spanning the past three weeks indicates that a majority of our students are at risk of falling behind. If you're facing challenges in ensuring your child's regular attendance, please reach out to us. We're here to provide support.

Additionally, during Week 8 learning conversations, teachers will be including discussions on the attendance rates of all children.

Families intending to take holiday during the school term are kindly requested to inform their child's teacher and the school office via email at admin@sjrochester.catholic.edu.au.

Cross Country

We were delighted to collaborate with Rochester Secondary College and Rochester Primary School for the Cross Country event. We extend our gratitude to Phoebe Cuttris, Sarah-Jayne Mangan, and their team for their diligent preparation of the event. Special thanks also go to our teachers for their support in facilitating the children's attendance and participation.

PUPIL FREE DAY

Last Monday, we observed an additional pupil-free day.

The primary objective of this day was to finalise the organisation of resources and spaces following the refurbishment of our buildings post-flood. We surpassed our expectations in terms of productivity, and I extend my heartfelt appreciation to all staff members for their dedicated efforts in accomplishing this task.

Recent Fundraisers

Throughout the year, we've engaged in various fundraisers to support our school:

  • Elmore Charity Ball
  • Elmore Tractor Pull

We are currently finalising the total amount raised. We aim to share these figures in our upcoming newsletter. A heartfelt thank you to all who contributed their efforts on behalf of St. Joseph's.

We anticipate a tranquil period in the weeks ahead. We extend our gratitude for your ongoing support and interest in our endeavors. We recognize and value the effort required to participate in daytime events.

Take care, stay in touch.
