Melbourne Writers Festival

On Thursday the 9th of May, 20 students from Levels 5 and 6 were selected to attend the Melbourne Writer’s Festival. Mrs. Reid and Mr. Pagliaro accompanied these students to the Melbourne State Library, where students came together with other schools to hear from 6 authors. We travelled by train to Melbourne Central and the students had an enjoyable time being on the train and being somewhere different for the day.

We heard from authors such as Anna Zobel, Jordan Gould and Richard Pritchard, Kate and Jol Temple, and Idan Bek-Barak. The authors spoke about what got them into writing books and answered questions from students. The authors also spoke about the inspirations behind their books, what they had to do to write their books, the process of becoming an author and what they are currently working on. The students were enthralled by the authors and enjoyed asking questions with a roaming mic.

After each presentation, the students had the opportunity to get a book signed by the author. The students loved being able to see the author who wrote the book in their hands, in real life! Students also had the opportunity to purchase the books from the authors, after the session.

Overall it was a fantastic day and the students were inspired to continue on their writing journey.
