MOTHERS’ DAY BREAKFAST & LUNCHEON

I know that Amanda has a beautiful piece in this newsletter about the success of our Mothers’ Day breakfast last week. I couldn’t let it pass, however, without saying a HUGE thank you to the army of Dads who stepped up and gave our Mums the morning they deserved! Thank you to Leif Pedersen, Chris Arnott, Troy Muir, Mark Anderson, Mark Angelatos, Tae Jung, Rob Shattock, James Hanrahan, Ben Salajan, Sig Klatte, Steve Bowden, Michael Grech. Thank you to Amanda McConaghy, who also managed to come and support with the set up, before going to enjoy her own Mothers’ Day event. What a wonderful way to start the day! Thank you, too, to Clea Wallage who organised the Mother’s Day lunch this year. Clea and the mums who attended raised $500 for the school, which will certainly help to support our playground enhancement project.

MORNING DROP OFF

In the mornings, we have staff on duty from 8:45am. Please do not drop your child off or send them to school earlier than this time as we are unable to provide supervision. TheirCare is available for booking from 6:30am, should you need before school care. As you know, classroom doors are open at 8:50 however children are welcome to have a play outside or visit breakfast club in the mornings. Thank you for your support with this.

CHILD SAFE STANDARDS

In 2022, the Victorian Government announced new Child Safe Standards to further strengthen child safety across organisations, including schools. The new standards recognise the critical importance of families and the broader school community in maintaining and promoting child safety and wellbeing.

South Melbourne Park Primary School is currently reviewing and updating our child safety policies and procedures to ensure they meet the requirements of the new standards. The updated policies will become available to view on the website, as they are reviewed. The Bullying policy is the latest policy to be reviewed.

We are committed to continuous improvement in our approach to child safety and wellbeing and welcome feedback from families and members of our school community on ways we can further strengthen our child safety policies, procedures and practices.

If you have any suggestions, comments or questions, about the Bullying policy, please contact me via south.melbourne.park.ps@education.vic.gov.au.

VOLUNTEER GRANT

Last year, one of our lovely mums, Yen Vuong, wrote a grant submission to seek funds to be used to support volunteers in our school. We were lucky enough to be successful in gaining $1500! I’m pleased to let you know that after much deliberation, we have contributed to the grant funds and purchased a defibrillator.

Defibrillators are devices that apply an electric charge or current to the heart to restore a normal heartbeat. If the heart rhythm stops due to cardiac arrest, a defibrillator may help it start beating again. The defibrillator is due to arrive in a couple of weeks. It will be stored in the office area, just before you turn into the hallway towards the sick bay. We hope we never have to use it, but feel reassured that we have it on stand-by should we ever need to! Thank you to Yen, for your contribution

 towards this!
