A Spotlight on Learning
A Spotlight on Learning in the FLC on Springvale Campus
It has been a jam packed and incredibly busy start to Term 2 in the Foundation Learning Centre. We have spent a lot of time having fun whilst engaging in some fantastic learning.
In Reading, the FLC students have begun learning to read, a very exciting time! Students have spent time creating their own books using high frequency words, and are reading them with confidence. They have been taking their sentence books home to read with their families. Students have learnt to identify the front and back covers, authors and illustrators. They are talking about what they see in the pictures and identify high frequency words in our big books.
In Writing, the students have been learning to correctly form the letters of the alphabet and write about their experiences. It is exciting to see students copy sentences in their books as well as having a go at creating their own sentences using words from charts and brainstorms around the room. So amazing!!!
In Mathematics, the FLC students have continued their learning around Counting. They have all been working very hard to achieve their goals and have loved counting everything in sight! The students have been learning to identify numbers, create groups to show the numbers and then compare them to say which is more and which is less. Some students are also ordering three numbers from smallest to largest! What superstars we have in the FLC!
The FLC students celebrated Mother’s Day by inviting their Mums and special friends into school for a morning tea. There were lots of fun activities such as jewellery making, icing and decorating biscuits, and making crowns for their mums. The students made cards and gave gifts to mums, making them feel very special. The mums especially loved hearing their children sing a special song called, “You are my sunshine”.
On Wednesday, the FLC students were lucky enough to have a visit from the Teddy Bear Hospital where they had lots of fun playing doctors and nursing their patients, the teddies.
