The students in Year 10 Automotive have spent half their semester learning how to repair major components of a motor vehicle. Now we have moved on to small engine repair. The students are learning all the components of a 4-stroke motor, measurement techniques, engine cycles, and how to diagnose and repair each of these components.
The class has a set of go-carts we have been designing and building. Previous classes have welded up multiple chassis for us. This class will be focusing on steering mechanisms and propulsion systems. We will be repairing motors, fine tuning them, and adding centrifugal clutches, chains, and sprockets. They will fabricate their designs, build them to spec, and test and refine their creations.
5 of our Year 11 students travelled to Monash University in Clayton on Wednesday 29th May to participate in the Model UN.
Our topic was Hear My Voice: Recognising the Rights of Indigenous Peoples. We were allocated China and Panama as our countries and students had to create and present a position statement representing each of these countries. The students then spoke and negotiated with other nations to create an amendment. During Session 3 the countries debated those amendments and at the end of the session we voted on the amendments.
Well done and thankyou to Zayn, Zeke, Harriet, Ava, Ryan and Mikayla for representing the college so well and to Rohan Giblett for driving the bus for us. For the students this was a valuable experience and has further deepened their understanding in reconciliation week of important issues.
VM Catering
Year 11 VM students have recently been involved in supplying delicious snacks at the recent Year 7 and Senior Information nights as well as the Careers Expo held recently in Boucher Hall. Students developed menus which were presented to the organisers. They then priced and ordered ingredients and set to work creating morning tea for over 50 guests and evening nibbles for visitors to the information nights. The food was well received and complimented on by all who attended the events. This hands-on approach to learning is part of the students Personal Development Program where students are encouraged to develop their communication, teamwork, collaboration and leadership skills.
VM Podcasts
Year 11 VM literacy students are currently investigating and developing their own Podcasts. Students have written scripts including sound effects and musical transitions and are experimenting with the technology that will enable them to record their pieces of work.
VET Hospitality
Year 12 VET Hospitality students had to come up with their own grain salads recipe, then prepare and present it. Zac made a Buckwheat salad.

Homework club is held in the Senior building every Wednesday and Thursday. This is open for ALL students at our College.
Homework club is a terrific opportunity for students to both catch up or get ahead in work. Students are offered the opportunity to work in small groups with other students or have one on one tutoring with their teachers, or other teachers.
If you are interested, speak with your teachers and let them know when you are looking to attend or go to the Senior building on Wednesday and Thursday afternoons.
Homework club runs from 3.20 pm to 5.00 pm and students are free to arrive and leave as they need.
