St Benedict Feast Day (11 July)

This week we celebrate the Feast Day of St. Benedict - one of our College's House Patrons. Our students in Benedict House will celebrate with a liturgy and sausage sizzle lunch this Friday. Students in the other Houses will participate in House Spirit building activities and games.

St. Benedict was a monk in Italy around 400-500AD. He is considered the 'Father of Monastic Life' as he established 'The Rule' - a plan for living a balanced, simple and prayerful life, revolving around 5 practices: prayer, work, study, hospitality and renewal - which many monasteries all over the world follow today. Bishop Rosendo Salvado was a monk from the Benedictine Order.

Did you know St Benedict was a twin? His sister, St. Scholastica also followed the Rule of Benedict and founded the Order of St Benedict for nuns.

Prayer written by St. Benedict

Gracious and Holy Father,

give us the wisdom to discover You,

the intelligence to understand You,

the diligence to seek after You,

the patience to wait for You, eyes to behold You,

a heart to meditate upon You,

and a life to proclaim You.

Amen.

Thank you!

Thank you to all our College families for your participation in the LifeLink Pyjama Day and SVDP Blanket collection. Over the term, our College raised $1184.40 for LifeLink and have donated a wonderful pile of much needed blankets to SVDP. All donations to these care agencies go towards people in need in our local community. Thank you for your faith in action – a loving response to God’s call!

We must thank the Lord for the people who make themselves available

to listen to and support the poorest among us.

Feast Days

Nativity of St John the Baptist (24 June)

St John the Baptist, cousin of Jesus, played an important role in the unfolding of salvation. His purpose was to prepare the way for Jesus. St John the Baptist is a true example of having total dependence on the Father through Jesus and surrendering completely to the will of God.

Solemnity of St Peter and St Paul (29 June)

This solemnity honours the two apostles who suffered martyrdom in Rome. It also celebrates St Peter and St Paul as the founders of the Church of Rome. They are also the patron saints of Rome.

Pope Francis on the Importance of Rest

With holidays approaching, students will have the opportunity to rest and recharge. Click here to read a relevant article about the importance of rest in God’s creative activity.

Pope Francis says:

“To truly rest, we need to “return to the heart of things”, the Pope said, and that requires

stopping our activities and remaining in silence and prayer to help us stop focusing on all that we have done and need to do.

Jesus always served others, but each day He would “withdraw in prayer, in silence, in intimacy with the Father”, the Pope said, and “His tender invitation – rest a while – should accompany us.”

The Pope added, let us learn how to take a break, “to turn off the mobile phone” and look at one another, “cultivate silence, to contemplate nature, to regenerate ourselves in dialogue with God”.”

Pope Francis' Monthly Prayer Intention

In June, we pray for migrants fleeing their homes.

The Holy Father encourages prayers for migrants fleeing from war or hunger, forced to undertake journeys full of danger and violence, find welcome and new opportunities in the countries that receive them.
