From the Classroom

Wow, we can't believe it's already the end of Term 1! Over the term we have seen some amazing learning across both classes and we are so proud of their progress.
Grandparents day photos
It has been a busy and "emusing" two weeks in English! Our Junior A superstars have been diving deep into the world of stories, focusing on how characters think, feel, and act. Using some of our favorite books like Edward the Emu, Thelma the Unicorn, and Pig the Pug, the students have been developing their foundational literacy and emotional intelligence skills. This fortnight in English, Junior B have been looking at Eric Carle’s Book of Amazing Animals. Students have learned about non-fiction texts and the features of these texts. Students have then begun researching their own animal of choice, learning about their classification, habitat, food and interesting facts and written an information report about their animal.
In Maths, Junior B have completed their Length Unit, we students used informal measurement units to estimate then find out the length of a variety of things around the school.
Maths Update: Sorting and Data! 📊
In Maths over the past two weeks, Junior A has been busy becoming data experts. We have been learning how to take information (data) and organise it so it makes sense. Here is a look at what we’ve been up to: Sorting Ourselves Out 👟
We started by looking at our own shoes! We sorted ourselves into groups based on whether we had laces, velcro, buckles different colours.
- Self-Portraits: The students drew detailed self-portraits and we used these to create a giant class "living graph."
- Categorising: We sorted our portraits by hair color and eye color, school uniform and practicing how to count each group accurately using 1:1 correspondence (pointing to each picture as we count). Photo below:)
Over the holidays, the Junior team would like to ask that you ensure that your child is ready for swimming in Week 2 of Term 2. This includes:
- Ensuring your child can dress themselves after being in the pool
- Having all school uniform (including socks) clearly labelled with their name
We hope that everyone has a wonderful and well-rested break. Thank you for all of your support this term, we look forward to seeing you all in Term 2.
Middle Unit News
Middle B have completed their learning unit on decimals and throughout the unit, students developed their understanding of decimal numbers and how they relate to whole numbers and fractions. They were able to recognise, read and write decimals (to tenths and hundredths), represent decimals using visual models such as number lines, compare and order decimal numbers and connect decimals to real-life contexts, including money. We have now begun a new unit on measurement, with a focus on mass and length. In this unit, students are learning to measure and compare mass using grams (g) and kilograms (kg), use appropriate tools such as scales to weigh objects, measure length using rulers and other measuring tools and understand and use units including millimetres (mm), centimetres (cm), and metres (m).
Middle B have completed our English unit on Iceberg by Claire Saxby and Earth’s Incredible Oceans. Throughout this unit, students investigated important themes and ideas, such as the interconnectedness of ecosystems, the impact of environmental change, survival and adaptation in extreme environments and human responsibility in protecting our oceans. Students identified and explained the main ideas and themes within texts, analysed how authors use language and images to convey meaning, make connections between texts and real-world issues and discussed and justified their opinions using evidence from the text.
We wish all our families a safe and enjoyable holiday. We hope you have a wonderful break and look forward to seeing everyone refreshed and ready for another exciting term of learning.
Middle A have completed their Math unit of place value and this for the last two weeks had been focusing on measurement. Students have been able to explore multiple units of measurement through interactive lessons where they have been comparing lengths of various objects around the classroom.
Middle A are very close to finishing of their English unit of creating a information report from Sophie Scott goes south. Each students has been assigned an Antarctic creature were they have researched information regarding their habitat, diet, and fun facts and transfer that into a information report. Middle A have been putting 'traffic light paragraph writing' into action ensuring the have a topic sentence, key information and a closing sentence. This is going to be presented into a poster.
From Myself and Mrs Mackney we wish you all a lovely break over the holidays. Keep safe and enjoy time spent with your loved ones.

Thank you to all grandparents and special friends who visited our Senior Unit last week. Students had a wonderful time creating their own family crests and really enjoyed sharing this experience with you. We truly appreciate your time and support—please see some photos below!
