Year 8 STRIVE Activities Day: Building Confidence Through Challenge
Our recent Year 8 STRIVE Activities Day provided students with a valuable opportunity to step outside their comfort zones and engage in experiences designed to build resilience, confidence and a sense of personal achievement.
Students selected from four diverse activities, each aligned with the core values of the STRIVE program. At Clifton Beach, students embraced the challenge of surfing, demonstrating persistence as they learned new skills in unfamiliar conditions. At Conningham, abseiling and rock climbing encouraged students to confront fears and support one another as they navigated both physical and mental challenges.
Another group undertook a bushwalk down kunanyi/Mount Wellington, taking in the natural beauty of the mountain while developing teamwork and perseverance along the track. Along the way, students paused at local waterfalls, reinforcing the importance of connection with the environment.
A fourth group focused on community service, embodying the value of contribution. Students supported FoodBank through packing essential supplies, prepared 16 litres of soup for Vinnies, and contributed to a STRIVE display board at school. Their efforts highlighted the importance of empathy and giving back to those in need.
Across all activities, students demonstrated a willingness to challenge themselves, support their peers and reflect on what they are capable of achieving. The day was a strong reminder that growth often occurs when we take risks and try something new.
We are proud of the way our Year 8 students embraced the spirit of STRIVE and represented the College values throughout the day. Having experienced and overcome these challenges, students have shown what they are capable of when they work together, persist, and step beyond their comfort zones. With many more opportunities ahead this year, we look forward to seeing them continue to support one another and rise to the challenges still to come.

Junior Dance Troupe rehearsals are under way! 31 talented students from Years 6 and 7 are learning a routine choreographed by some talented Year 9 students. The Troupe are getting ready for Hobart Eisteddfod in July.
The Senior Dance Troupe have started their collaboration with Hutchins. Their song and dance routine will be performed at the Hutchins Dance Showcase, our Arts Festival and Tassie Dancers Against Cancer.

Year 10 Camp
Our Year 10 students recently took part in their Community Service Camp, an experience that combined giving back with reflection and connection.
Based at The Lea Scout Centre, students spent the first two days working in small groups to support a range of local organisations. Their efforts included assisting at primary schools, supporting aged care communities, and preparing meals for St Vincent de Paul. These opportunities allowed students to make meaningful contributions while developing empathy, teamwork, and a deeper understanding of community needs.
On the final day, students completed a walking reflection along the Pipeline Track, taking time to consider their experiences and the impact of their service. The camp concluded with a BBQ at Waterworks Reserve, providing a chance to celebrate their efforts together.
We are incredibly proud of the way our Year 10 students represented the school, demonstrating respect, initiative, and a genuine commitment to supporting others.
We extend our sincere thanks to all staff and community partners for their support and assistance in making this meaningful experience possible for our students.
Relay for Life 2026
Some of our Year 10 students recently took part in Relay for Life, forming a team that exemplified remarkable commitment, resilience, and a true sense of community spirit. Throughout the event, the students displayed a wonderful attitude, supporting one another, embracing the purpose of the relay, and creating a positive and uplifting team environment.
Their enthusiasm, encouragement, and pride in representing the school were evident throughout the entire experience. By getting involved with such dedication, they not only contributed to the fight against cancer but also inspired those around them through their energy and compassion.
Relay for Life is a vital event that raises awareness and funds for cancer research, and our students approached it with maturity, respect, and a genuine desire to make a difference. This year, the Mount Carmel team raised $8,118, a fantastic achievement that reflects their hard work and generosity.
We are incredibly proud of every student involved for embodying the values of teamwork, perseverance, and compassion, and for showing how much of a positive impact young people can make in supporting their community.
