Prayer Spaces in Chapel | Years 5 and 6

Gallery Image

It’s been a jam-packed start to Term 2 with community events, incursions, excursions and our annual Cross Country Carnival and swimming lessons for our Pre-Primary to Year 3 students. A personal highlight was the Pilgrimage of Joy, led by Bishop Hans and involving students across Anglican Schools in the southern suburbs.

The following student reflection was shared at the Communion of Joy service that concluded this year’s Pilgrimage. Year 6 students, Sydney Williams and Alexis Dowd, spoke beautifully at this service, held in St George’s Cathedral.

Pilgrimage of Joy – Reflection

The Pilgrimage of Joy was a wonderful opportunity for us to participate in something we don’t normally get to do. As students, we were excited and honoured to be included in the journey, walking with Bishop Hans, other students and leaders from Anglican Schools. It was a very special thing for us to be able to walk with Bishop Hans.

The challenge for many of the students was that we were walking a fair distance and had to navigate catching the train in one part. Just walking is not something we normally do, so the simpleness of this was something new.

There were many parts of the Pilgrimage that were enjoyable or valued by the students who participated. We enjoyed being with each other, walking with friends and being out in the community. The Welcome to Country and smoking ceremony provided a really special way to start the journey. While we walked, we had the chance to connect with others and spend time praying.

Most of all, we loved being able to talk to Bishop Hans and share things about ourselves, learn about his role as the Bishop and ask big questions. It was so special to see that Bishop Hans was so interested in us, our learning and to listen as he shared some ways in which the Anglican Church is working to help do good work in the world.

We are all so grateful for the opportunity to participate in the 2026 Pilgrimage of Joy and we would like to thank all of those involved in the planning.

It was a wonderful event that embodied our theme for the year – Walking Together, Growing Together, Stronger Together!

Enjoy this edition of the Wrap.

This morning we were privileged to come together as a Primary School and enjoy the assembly presented by the Year 3 classes. The Year 3 students have been very busy over the last fortnight with swimming lessons, so we really appreciated them being able to also prepare for and present an enjoyable assembly.

As always, it was great to have the House Reveal as a part of the Primary Assembly. The students were once again left amazed at the creativity of Ms Daisy Ellis and Ms Mel Fowler, who announced the winning House from the recent Inter-House Cross Country Carnival in a very engaging manner! Well done to all the individual students who were acknowledged for their fine achievements from the Cross Country Carnival. We wish them well at the upcoming IPSHA Inter-School Cross Country event.

Thanks also to Secondary Music Coordinator, Mr Rory Marchant, who organised some musical performances at this assembly. This was much enjoyed by all community members of the School.

Finally, our appreciation also goes to our Grounds and IT staff, who consistently work hard in the background to make our assemblies possible. Without their input, the assemblies just wouldn’t be able to go ahead!

Wishing everyone a well-deserved weekend.

Paul Litherland is an ex-Police Officer who strives to educate kids and teenagers about not only cyber safety but about online awareness. We learned about the social media ban and how apps are wrongly targeting kids. Paul also taught us about how gaming platforms and online chat apps are not taking care of our personal details. Paul helped us stay aware of scams and what to do if you're in that situation.

Kids are not aware of how far their technology can go and who can see it, he told us about kids having a passive footprint online. He told us children are not careful online and in 17 years the percentage of children who have a phone has gone up by 53%, as well as the percentage of people doing online gaming purchases going up by almost 70%.

Paul wants children to find the courage to be careful when going online. He inspired us to go into a setting and make sure that location and public sharing is off so that we are protecting our personal details. We loved having Paul come to our school and we look forward to see him again.

Year 5 students recently took part in the inspiring Art on the Scarp excursion, where 23 students came together to create a collaborative artwork reflecting the 2026 JWACS theme, Walking together, Growing together, Stronger together.

We created our nature artwork around a beautiful big tree. Students split into three teams and each created one part of the theme. They planned their ideas together and creatively represented them using natural materials around our tree. All teams worked so well together and were very open to sharing their ideas and encouraging one another. Some amazing creative thinking took place.

Their artwork was on display as part of the 2026 Armadale Arts Festival, alongside works from other schools and professional artists. A huge thanks to Mrs Steph Haug for her support on the day and for providing so many natural materials for us to use from her incredible garden, and to Glyn Teape and David Crawford for their ongoing support.

Year 6 Excursion to WA Museum Boorla Bardip

On Friday 31 April, the Year 6s went to the WA Museum Boorla Bardip to learn about what an exhibition is and what one might look like - it was a brilliant excursion. We really enjoyed the wildlife section, the Aboriginal agriculture section and the innovation exhibition. These exhibitions were very educational and interesting, leading to several inquiries and questions such as:

  • How do stars form?
  • How does sand sink to the ocean floor while the water rises above it?
  • How does climate change affect the land?

Some of our favourite parts were exploring and interacting with the geology section and the wildlife area, as there were amazing models and paintings that displayed emotions or showed what life looked like during different times, such as medieval times or periods when people were treated differently based on their looks, race or religion.

We felt that the excursion was an incredible way to learn about exhibitions. A few lucky students were also able to learn about how the Museum set up the ocean experience exhibition. For example, researchers had found a new species of shrimp that were pink because they lived so deep below the surface that there was no light, meaning the shrimp could not tan and become red like many other shrimp.

This excursion was very inspiring and we learnt so much from it, including why we are completing the Exhibition this year. We are very excited to be able to show our presentations to our families, friends, peers and teachers later in the year.

Since we have told you all about the exhibitions, we are sure you would like to know more about what we learnt! The questions we were given and the answers we shared were:

Q. What kinds of things are displayed in an exhibition?

A. There are artefacts, paintings, models, maps, interactive displays and sensors, timelines, large lifelike models, QR codes and pictures that show the way things look.

Q. What makes an exhibition interesting or engaging for visitors?

A. Videos of people doing things, objects representing different ideas, interactive displays, models and artefacts. Some interactive objects even allow you to look inside them, smell things and closely observe different items.

In summary, the excursion was brilliantly delightful and a wonderful learning experience.

Inter-House Cross-Country | Years 2-6

A special thank you to our Year 6 Captains, who demonstrated excellent leadership by assisting with the ELC Cross Country during the morning sessions. Their support and encouragement were greatly appreciated and played an important role in ensuring a positive experience for our youngest students.

Hear from our Primary Sport Captain:

On Friday 1 May we participated in our Inter-House Cross Country Carnival. All students from Pre-Primary to Year 6 participated on the day - everyone did an amazing job having a go, even if they found it difficult. The Pre-Primary to Year 1 session was first, they all gave their best effort and we saw some fantastic result. Later in the morning was Years 2 to 6, once again we saw some great results and sportsmanship throughout the day. I just wanted to say that no matter where you came, or how fast you went, everyone should be proud of themselves for having a go and trying their best!

Inter-House Cross-Country | Early Learning Centre

Congratulations to the students who have been selected to represent the school in the IPSHA Interschool Cross Country team. These students will compete against other IPSHA schools on Tuesday 2 June, at Guildford Grammar School. We wish all team members the very best as they prepare for this exciting opportunity and know they will represent our school with pride and determination.

Swimming Lessons

Students from Pre-Primary to Year 3 recently participated in a two-week swimming program at Gosnells Leisure World, where they developed important water safety skills and built confidence in the pool. Throughout the program, students worked hard to improve their floating, kicking and stroke development while demonstrating resilience and enthusiasm.

Congratulations to all students for the many skills they demonstrated throughout the program, including listening carefully to instructions, following safety rules, encouraging their peers and showing respect to instructors and classmates. Students also showed perseverance and growing confidence as they challenged themselves in new learning environments and embraced new experiences in the water.

It was great to see students celebrating their progress across the two weeks. To conclude the program, many students enjoyed fun pool activities during their final lessons, including retrieving sinky toys and experiencing the whirlpool.

A big thank you to all teaching staff involved for their support and assistance throughout the program to ensure the swimming lessons ran smoothly and provided a positive and rewarding experience for all students.
