ANZAC DAY 2026

🌺 Whole School Assembly – Friday 24 April
Our school gathered in the stadium for a meaningful, student-led ANZAC Day Assembly, providing an opportunity for reflection, respect, and remembrance.
School Captains Bryn and Ayasha led the assembly, supported by SRC Captains, the First Nations Captain, and Year Level Captains, who contributed to the commemorative readings and reflections.
Students shared the history and significance of ANZAC Day, recognising the sacrifice of Australian and New Zealand service men and women from Gallipoli through to modern conflicts and peacekeeping operations. The assembly highlighted the enduring values of courage, mateship, and selflessness.
The ceremony included a wreath laying, the Ode of Remembrance, the playing of the Last Post, and a minute’s silence. Students also delivered a moving recitation of In Flanders Fields.
The School Captains also introduced the 2026 Year Level Captains, and the assembly concluded with a performance by ABC – Ari, Ben and Callum (Year 10).
Thank you to all students, staff, and student leaders who contributed to a respectful and memorable assembly.
Lest we forget. 🌺
🌅 ANZAC Day Dawn Service
As part of the Lilydale RSL ANZAC Dawn Service, we proudly acknowledge Georgia Gow and York Newell (Year 11) for being outstanding representatives of Lilydale High School.
Georgia and York delivered a moving reading of “Mates’ Poem” by Duncan Butler (2/12th Field Ambulance, WWII), honouring the spirit of mateship and sacrifice 🌺
A sincere thank you to both students for representing our school with such respect and pride.
Lest we forget 🌺
🌺 Legacy ANZAC Commemoration Service
On Tuesday 5 May, 78 students attended the Legacy ANZAC Commemoration Service, a meaningful event that honours Australia’s history of service and reflects on the values of courage, sacrifice, and community.
Elinor Sinco and Nathan Hopkins (Year 9) represented the school by laying a wreath during the service. Following this, Elinor and Sienna (Year 9) had the opportunity to meet and speak with the Lieutenant Governor-General, discussing their schooling and studies in Humanities.
The 2026 service marks the 94th year that Melbourne Legacy’s ANZAC Commemoration Ceremony for Students has brought together thousands of Victorian primary and secondary students at Melbourne’s iconic Shrine of Remembrance.
Established in the early 1930s, this historic event continues to ensure young people understand the meaning of ANZAC and the impact of war on families and communities. Nearly a century later, it remains one of Victoria’s longest-running commemorative events.
