We congratulate these students on their leadership appointments and look forward to the positive contribution they will make to the Junior School community throughout the year.
📚✨ Boosting Literacy with QuickSmart!
The QuickSmart Literacy Program commenced in Term 1. The program focuses on strengthening comprehension in reading, writing, and spelling through fun and interactive learning experiences.
It has been a very positive start, with students demonstrating exceptional attitudes and enthusiasm towards their learning. We look forward to continuing to build their skills and confidence throughout the program.
🦎 🎉 Zoology Birthday Celebration
On April 21, the Zoology Centre celebrated a special birthday for our curator, Mike Swan, with a lunch organised by Zoology Coordinator, Tegan Samphier.
Mike has played a significant role in helping our collection grow into one of the largest reptile and amphibian collections housed within a purpose-built school Zoology Centre - not only in Australia, but possibly the world!
With his incredible knowledge, passion, and many talents, we are very proud to have Mike as part of the Lilydale High School team.
📚🎭 The Bookbinder – Arts Experience
On April 24, our Library Warriors and book lovers visited the Melbourne Arts Centre to see The Bookbinder by Trick of the Light.
This captivating one-man performance follows a bookbinding apprentice, where storytelling and stagecraft blend as the story quite literally comes to life in the workshop around him.
It was a magical and immersive experience that thoroughly engaged and inspired all who attended ✨
☕ 🍰 LHS Café
The LHS Café has been buzzing this term, with students and staff enjoying a fantastic series of café events on April 23 and April 30, filled with delicious $2 treats!
Students and staff have enjoyed a Variety of favourites, including sausage rolls, movie-style popcorn, waffles with ice cream and maple syrup, hot chocolates with marshmallows, barista-made coffees, iced drinks, iced chocolates and coffees, and the ever-popular ice cream sandwiches!
New favourites also made their debut, including the Lolly Rocky Road created by Will I, and Ice White Chocolates, alongside iced milk chocolates and iced coffees.
A big thank you to everyone who supported our sustainability efforts by bringing an LHS Keep Cup and enjoying a free refill - a great initiative by our school community.
A big thank you to our dedicated Year 9 café crew for their organisation and hard work in running such successful lunchtime events. We look forward to seeing everyone at the next café!
🔥VCE VM Fundraising BBQ – 27 April Success
The fundraising BBQ went pretty well overall, and it was great to see how many people came to support it.
Our VCE VM class was trying to raise money for our catering SAC, in which we provide a morning tea for all teachers and Year 11 students. We had a few local businesses donate items, which helped us out a lot and made it easier to actually raise money.
In the end, we raised about $248, which was a solid result for what we were aiming for. On the day it was pretty busy, and there was a great vibe with everyone getting involved and buying food.
There was actually a lot more work behind it than it probably looked like. We had to organise who was doing what, sort out the food and equipment, and a huge thank you goes out to Montrose Meats for the massive amount of onions, Chirnside Park Meat and Poultry for the gourmet-flavoured sausages, and HealthyBake Lilydale for the delicious sourdough bread - we can’t thank you enough.
Setting everything up on the day took time, and then we had to cook, serve people, and handle money while it was all happening. Packing up at the end was a bit tiring, but overall it was worth it and showed how much effort goes into running something like this.

🪵Building for Strength and Conditioning
Recently, students in Year 10 Wood Technology with Mr Martin designed and constructed a set of wooden plyometric training boxes for use in the P7 Weights Room.
Students applied a range of practical woodworking skills throughout the project, including measuring, cutting, assembling, and finishing the boxes to a high standard.
The completed boxes will now be used in strength and conditioning sessions for fitness work, and athletic development in the weights room. Congratulations to the students on their excellent craftsmanship and contribution to the school community.
🪸 Bright & Bold Coral Creations
Students in Ms Hovanjec’s Year 9 Ceramics class have created stunning coral-inspired sculptural pinch pots influenced by the work of American artist and marine conservation advocate Courtney Mattison.
Exploring a range of ceramic techniques, students decorated and constructed original pieces featuring intricate textures, vibrant colours, and imaginative forms.
Through creativity and experimentation, the class produced unique artworks inspired by the fragile beauty of coral reefs while also raising awareness about the impacts of climate change on marine environments.
🥗💚 A Lunch Packed with Thanks
The Compassionate Kitchen team showed thanks to all the ES staff by making them a delicious lunch pack comprising of a pesto pasta salad, and a green salad.
The students gathered all the ingredients together and combined them beautifully with terrific, mouthwatering results.
Lovely notes of genuine thanks decorated the packs. 💌🌿
Thanks to all that came to collect them 🙏💚
