VCE VM Escape Room Project: A Creative Challenge
By Glenn Booth ( VM Teacher)
Over the past few weeks our Year 11 VCE VM students have designed, built, prepared and run an escape room. This year the rooms created followed a jail break with escapees starting in a jail cell, breaking out of that into a first aid room and then through the prison yard to freedom. The students did a great job to set this up and run it for others in the school community. They researched the social issue of incarceration and the challenges of people re-entering society, the long lasting affect of these experiences and the lack of opportunities available to them.
BHCS Music Ensemble Showcase: A Night of Excellence
By Hannah Denny (Head of Music)
“Effective learning happens best in community where there are relationships of trust and mutual service, where people exercise their particular calling before God” (Transformation Education)
The Music Ensemble Showcase indeed demonstrated effective learning and the strength of trust and mutual service that is evident within the music department students.
The evening was fantastic with the following superb musical items:
Senior Concert Band: Fanfare & Star Wars Medley
Primary Choir: Special Kind of Story & We Welcome You Little Baby
Grade 6 Band: Young Masters & Bandroom Rock
Intermediate Band: Jurassic park & Wellerman
Booth Band: Beat it & Nobody Knows
Year 10 Class Ensemble: Oh What a Glorious Night
Secondary Choir: Here Comes the Sun & He Has Done Marvellous Things
Jazz Ensemble: Backrow Politics
My congratulations to the 110 students who performed, it was a joyful evening where God honoring music was on display and thoroughly enjoyed by the audience. Thank-you to all for your weekly commitment to the BHCS music ensemble program, including all those early morning and lunchtime rehearsals.
VET Cookery Students Shine at Culinary Competition
By Glenn Booth (VET Cookery Teacher)
Last Thursday we had a great opportunity for some of our VET cookery students to represent our school in a culinary competition. Six of our students from year 11, Kaia S, Emma G, Ava S, Jack S, Abi T and Grace D made the journey to Aquinas College where one of the home teams won the competition with our best performance in second place missing top spot by just 1 point.
Students were able to see other competitors work and had professional chefs from the industry give them feedback on the way that they work and the dishes that they created. All students also received some products from sponsors and Ava S was named the best student in the competition which is a great honour to receive. All students represented our school very well and produced amazing dishes.
