"You can't pour from an empty cup. Take care of yourself first." - Norm Kelly. Taking care of yourself should always be a priority. Life has a way of getting busy and becoming chaotic, but it is important to remember that you cannot pour from an empty cup.

This week as part of our “Mental Health Month” and “Stress Down Day” activities, staff were invited to an afternoon tea where they were provided with some tips and ideas to reduce stress and of the importance of including self-care as part of their daily routine.

Sometimes it is the little things that can make the biggest difference and as we approach the halfway mark of a notoriously busy term the afternoon tea provided a perfect opportunity to enjoy each other’s company and check in with each other. All staff members were provided with a small selfcare gift kit which provided a few simple strategies and resources that can be used to reduce stress or anxiety.

Stress can seriously affect your body, mind, and general wellbeing resulting in not feeling like your “usual self”. Whilst you might feel like tension or stress is part of your normal day, we need to be reminded that our bodies are designed to recover. With practice and consistency selfcare contributes to feeling grounded, calm, and at ease.

This feeling of calm supports our resilience, which enables us to confidently deal with obstacles and issues that we may experience in our life.

If you would like some further information or strategies for your child to better manage stress, please do not hesitate to reach out to their pastoral leader and we can arrange for them to access some wellbeing support.
