Transition Update: Building Confidence with Pep Talks & Positive Self-Talk

This week, our students took part in a wellbeing-focused transition lesson all about pep talks and the power of positive self-talk. As students prepare to move into their new year levels, this session supported them in building confidence, resilience, and emotional regulation.

During the lesson, students created their own “Pep Talk Shield”, a visual reminder of their strengths, talents, and qualities. These shields were decorated with pride and filled with uplifting messages students can use whenever they need a boost.

To finish, students reflected on how positive self-talk can help them:

  • Build confidence
  • Reframe negative thoughts
  • Improve emotional regulation
  • Strengthen resilience

We encourage families to chat with their child about their Pep Talk Shield and how they might use it at home or school. A weekly challenge was also set: each morning, students will say one thing they admire about themselves or read their pep talk back to themselves.

We loved seeing the students’ creativity and self-belief shine through—what a positive start to their transition journey!
