Student Placement at Highton Primary School

At Highton Primary School, we place great importance on creating the best possible learning environments for every child. Our class placement process is thoughtful and thorough, taking into account a wide range of factors to ensure that all students have the opportunity to learn, grow, and feel supported.

When forming new classes, we aim for balance—considering academic needs, social dynamics, individual strengths, and friendship groups. Our goal is to create diverse and positive learning communities where students can thrive. Exposure to different teachers and classmates across a child’s schooling is also an important part of building resilience, developing new friendships, and broadening learning opportunities.

Key considerations in class placement include:

  • Individual student needs and abilities
  • Social dynamics and compatibility
  • Diverse and balanced learning environments
  • Opportunities to build relationships with a variety of peers and teachers

Our commitment to student wellbeing and success guides every decision we make. While it is not always possible to accommodate all requests, please know that each child is placed with care, with their learning and wellbeing at the heart of our process.

How parents can help: You can support your child through class changes by encouraging positivity, talking about the benefits of meeting new teachers and classmates, and celebrating the chance to build new friendships. These moments provide valuable opportunities for students to grow in resilience, adaptability, and confidence.

Kind Regards
