Testing Week!

Week 7 will see the students completing a number of assessments that will indicate how much they have grown accademically.  We have already completed our writing piece that we have moderated and next week will see us complete Reading Comprehension and Maths.  So plenty of rest and brain food for the students next week.

Literacy

We are coming towards the end of our third Novel Study of the year, exploring 'Nevermoor' by Jessica Townsend. Morrigan has completed two of her three trials.  She needs to pass the final trial to be admitted into the Wonderous Society, but she still doesn't know what her knack is, and there is the myterious Wondersmith lurking in the background that has to make an apprearance!

The grade six students are continuing to work on their Memory Books. They are creating written pieces to commemorate each cherished year of Skye Primary School. Over the next fortnight we will be completing a procedural text and a narrative.

Maths

We are brushing up on our Fractions, Decimals and Percentages skills.  These are a part of everyday life and we have to be able to recoginise equivalent fractions, add and subtract fractions with unlike denominators, add, subtract, multiply and divide decimals and identify percentages and how to calculate them quickly in our head so we can catch that bargin at the shops.

We are continuing our 'fluency frenzy'. Students are working hard to master all of their multiplication facts or improve their recall speed. The times that the students are recording are rapidly decreasing.  These automatic recall of times tables and addition and subtraction facts are the absolute bedrock for their maths as they move into secondary school.  They are doing a great job!

Wellbeing

In Respectful Relationships, students are furthering their understanding of positive relationships. They are participating in group discussions about being proactive and assertive when maintaining interpersonal relationships that respect and recognize the rights of others.

Thanks for reading and there is plenty of action to come in the closing few weeks!
