Upcoming Learning
Literacy
In phonics, we will continue Stage 7.5, focusing on the morphology of words. Students will learn to read and spell words with the suffix -or, -ar and -er, and understand how this suffix changes the meaning of base words.
We have started our persuasive unit, focusing on the text 'Tiddler' by Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler. Students will be exploring ways that we can be persuasive.
In Writing, students are learning to make their sentences flow and make sense by matching the action word (verb) to the subject and tense. They’ll also be practising how to join ideas together to make more detailed sentences and experimenting with words that show how certain or unsure they are about something.
Numeracy
In Number we will be continuing our Operations unit. Students will continue to apply their knowledge of how to solve addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division word problems using bar models and will be introduced to the CUBES strategy to break down worded problems by circling key numbers, underling the question, box key words, evaluate the steps needed and solving the question. We will then begin exploring fractions with a focus on wholes, halves, quarters and eighths of shapes, collections, mass and time.
In our Shape unit, students will learn how to create and manipulate polygons and investigate the impact of rotating shapes to create patterns and identify two-dimensional shapes in our environment and use their properties to explain their use.
Inquiry- Through Generations
This term, students are exploring how people, places, and stories are connected across time in our Inquiry unit Through Generations. They will interview someone from an older generation to learn about the past and practise using language to describe events in the past, present, and future. Students will also explore different points of view, the importance of special places in communities and cultures, and how stories from the past can be told in different ways.
Wellbeing
In Wellbeing, students will explore the topic of Positive Gender Relations. Students will participate in the following lessons:
- What is violence? What is gender-based violence?
- The opposite of violence is respect
- What does it mean to ask, give or refuse consent
- Respect my body, respect my personal space
If you'd like to know more about the lesson and what is involved, you can find it in the link below by scrolling to page 3 of the Contents and then selecting Topic 8.
Celebration of Learning
We are so proud of our Grade 2 cohort for the incredible effort and resilience they’ve shown throughout our 'almost complete' assessment period. Students approached each task with determination, positivity, and a willingness to tackle new challenges, and it has been wonderful to see their confidence grow. As we wrap up this busy time, we are taking the opportunity to celebrate all of their wonderful achievements, big and small, and recognise just how far they’ve come this year. What a fantastic group of learners!
