Literacy
The teachers have been busy assessing students’ reading and writing skills, and the Prep team is delighted with the wonderful progress the children have made in their literacy development. It’s clear that they have learnt so much this year!
The children are currently enjoying learning the Stage 7.1 sounds and are embracing the challenge of writing words that include vowel digraphs. Recently, they explored words with the ‘--y’ sound, such as happy, Molly, and chatty. It has been fantastic to see their enthusiasm and growing confidence as young readers and writers!

Mathematics
In Mathematics, we have been exploring numbers up to 100. Students have been practising counting forwards and backwards from a given number and counting by tens. They have also been writing and constructing two-digit numbers using various materials.
In Applied Maths, we’ve been exploring how to solve problems by directly comparing the length and mass of different objects. The students have enjoyed making predictions and then hefting items to compare their weights. It’s been wonderful to see their curiosity and hands-on approach as they develop their understanding of measurement!

Inquiry
In our unit Our Sustainable World, we’ve been learning about how fruits and vegetables grow and the seasons in which they thrive. The classes have placed vegetable cuttings in water to see if they will sprout, and the students have been making predictions and observing the changes each day. It’s been so exciting to watch their curiosity grow, stay tuned for an update on what happens next!
Wellbeing
In Wellbeing, students have been discussing what kind and friendly behaviour looks like, and how it differs from mean or hurtful behaviour. It’s been wonderful to see how positively our children are interacting during games, activities, and playtimes. They are becoming more confident in recognising positive emotions and understanding how their actions can help others feel good too.

Excursion to the Cranbourne Botanic Gardens
The children had a wonderful time exploring the Cranbourne Botanic Gardens. After an enjoyable bus ride, we shared a relaxing lunch before strolling through the stunning gardens, admiring the many unique and colourful native plants. We took some fun photos together and then listened to a captivating Indigenous story titled You, Me and Murrawee. The children had the chance to sing, dance, and play stick instruments amongst the trees, fully immersing themselves in the experience. They also enjoyed ponding, discovering a range of fascinating species, and creating beautiful Indigenous-inspired sand art. It was a truly enriching and memorable day of learning and connection for both students and teachers!
