What's Been Happening in Year 5

Year 5 Parliament Incursion

On Monday 27th October and Tuesday 28th October, the Year 5 students participated in a Parliament Incursion conducted by Linked Incursions. This experience significantly deepened their understanding of Civics and Citizenship. The students explored the concept of democracy and the three levels of government, and then engaged in a role-play where they voted for a Prime Minister and followed the entire process of passing a bill. They were highly engaged and thoroughly enjoyed the Parliament Incursion.

What's Been Happening in Year 6

Camp at The Ranch!!

6A: Georgis (Giant Swing)

The giant swing was the activity I was looking forward to the most. We needed to work together as a team to pull the team mate up to the top. The highest you could drop from was 18 metres. I made sure to go the highest I could go. When we reached the top, we had to pull on a rope that held us up so we could drop. Miss Phi dared me to sing on the giant swing so I sang ‘I believe I can fly’, it was really funny. Definitely my favourite activity.

6B: Alex (Flying Fox + Rancher Award)

The flying fox was my favourite activity. We had to get into partners, walk up a big hill AND climb a flight of stairs. The instructor connected our harnesses to the zipline and then we had to walk off the edge of the platform to start. Once we got past the trees, we could let go of the harness and really start having fun.

The Rancher award is meant for the student who shows the most resilience. I think I showed resilience by trying every activity, even with a broken wrist and being confident in myself. I got given a doll called Rancher and got to lead the whole year level in a big conga line through and around the chapel. I feel really proud of myself for winning the award and showing resilience throughout the camp.

6C: Antonio (Horse Riding)

My first activity that I got to do was horse riding. I was a bit nervous because I had never ridden a horse before. Before we went, we needed boots, a helmet and some safety instructions. I was riding the biggest horse named Tank. I called him ‘Big Boy Tank’. He was restless and wanted to move and eat grass. I really liked connecting with Tank by petting him and encouraging him. Tank was the best because he never stopped to use the toilet. I’m really proud of myself for trying a new thing!

6D: Youssef (Rock Climbing)

I was in Mr Nario’s group and we got to go rock climbing. There were two walls to choose from. They were super tall and looked a bit scary when I got up close. My friends kept cheering me on as I climbed. I slipped a few times but just kept trying my best. When I was coming down the wall, I used my feet to bounce off of the wall which was really fun. Mr Nario even had a go and got to the top.
