Principal's Report

It has been a full and engaging week at school, with our students embracing a range of important experiences. NAPLAN testing has now been successfully completed, and I would like to commend our students for the persistence and focus they demonstrated throughout. Our Year 5 students also enjoyed a visit to Macleod College, gaining a valuable insight into secondary school and what lies ahead. Alongside this, the ever-changing weather certainly kept us on our toes, providing a wonderful opportunity for students to build resilience and adaptability. Skills that are just as important as any learned in the classroom.

A Visit to Remember

For those of you who don’t know me well, I am a deeply passionate person. I feel incredibly lucky to lead a school like Golf Links and to support our students each day, but I must confess, I have another great passion in life… the Carlton Football Club.

So, when these two worlds collide, things can get a little… embarrassing.

On Monday morning, we received the news that the five Carlton players visiting would be Jacob Weitering our All-Australian Vice Captain, George Hewett (reigning John Nicholls Medallist), Flynn Young, Lewis Young and Matthew Carroll. At this point, any hope of me being a calm, composed principal for the remainder of the morning quickly disappeared.

I will admit, productivity took a slight dip while I waited (not so patiently) for their arrival.

When the players arrived, Kerilyn showed them into my office, where—much to my delight—they made themselves very comfortable… particularly with my collection of Carlton bobbleheads. I’m pleased to report that Jacob Weitering was more excited by the Sam Docherty bobblehead than his own, which I’m choosing to take as a great endorsement of my office décor.

Once we all composed ourselves (some of us more successfully than others), the players joined our Year 3–6 students in the hall. Our students had prepared some thoughtful questions, and it was fantastic to hear the players speak about discipline, teamwork and their aspirations, including, very confidently, plans to be playing in September.

What stood out most, however, was how relatable they were. Alongside their elite athletic achievements, they spoke about enjoying Pokémon cards and Minecraft, reminding our students that even professional athletes are, at heart, just big kids who followed their passions.

A wonderful experience for our students… and, if I’m being honest, a bit of a dream day for their principal as well.

AGM and School Council

Our AGM was held last night with the Annual Report to the School Community presented. Once this report is run through quality assurance, we will be able to upload it to our website.

Our new school council also met for the first time this year it was lovely to go through the process of governance with the new group and get us ready for a full year ahead.

Join a School Council Sub Committee and Make a Difference

With our School Council elections now complete, the important work of shaping and enhancing our school community continues! One of the best ways to get involved is by joining a School Council Sub-Committee—a fantastic opportunity for parents and carers to contribute to the day-to-day operations and future direction of Rosanna Golf Links Primary School.

In 2025, we will once again be running four key sub-committees:

🔹 Finance – Overseeing budgets, funding, and financial planning.

🔹 Policy – Reviewing and shaping school policies to align with best practices.

🔹 Facilities & Environment – Enhancing our learning spaces and sustainability efforts.

🔹 Community & Fundraising – Strengthening school engagement and fundraising initiatives.

With the exception of the Finance sub-committee, the committees are all open to parent involvement. These sub-committees thrive on the knowledge, skills, and enthusiasm of our families. Whether you have expertise in these areas or simply a passion for making a positive impact, we’d love to have you on board! Meetings will commence early in Term 2, and your involvement can be as simple as attendance in 8 one hour meetings.

Assembly Monday

We will be holding an assembly on Monday to hand out our JSC and Sustainability badges. We will start at 9:10am. Please feel free to join us.

Celebrate Neurodiversity

April is recognised worldwide as a month to promote better understanding of autism. It kicks off with the United Nations’ World Autism Awareness Day on 2 April 2026. In Australia, the focus is moving from awareness to understanding and acceptance.  

Our school is committed to building understanding of autism so we can better include and support autistic students every day.  

To celebrate our autistic students on World Autism Awareness Day on 2 April we are holding a Hoodie Up Day at school to show our support for neurodiverse members of our community and to promote a message that everyone deserves to feel seen, heard and accepted.

Students are invited to wear a hoodie with their school uniform on the day. We encourage families to support this initiative with a gold coin donation, with all funds raised donated to Amaze to support their work advocating for and supporting autistic people and their families.

We look forward to coming together as a community to celebrate and support the diversity that makes our school such a wonderful place.
