Around the College

FIRST Australia Robotics Competition
Our Robotics Team (10552) has achieved outstanding success at the FIRST Australia Robotics Competition, with our alliance taking out the win at the Southern Cross Regional.
Held from 13–15 March at the Penrith Valley Regional Sports Centre, the event brought together 42 teams from across Australia and internationally. Competing on this stage, our students demonstrated exceptional technical skill, teamwork and composure.
We extend our sincere thanks to our sponsors, Scorptec, Compnow, Munka, GetKit, Officeworks, StepFwdIT, Macmor Electrical, and Fratelli Engineering, whose support continues to drive the success of our Robotics Program.

2026 VicSRC Senior Secondary Pathways Student Advisory Panel
Year 12 VCE Vocational Major student Stephen has been selected for the 2026 VicSRC Senior Secondary Pathways Student Advisory Panel.
The panel brings together 14 students from across Victoria to share their experiences and ideas directly with the Victorian Student Representative Council and the Department of Education. Its focus is clear. Improve senior secondary pathways and ensure all students can access meaningful opportunities after school, whether that is further study, employment, or other pathways .
Stephen will contribute to discussions across the year, including workshops and panel meetings in North Melbourne. The role includes around 40 hours of participation and is a paid opportunity that recognises student contribution.
Stephen studies at Mazenod three days a week. He also completes a Certificate III in Laboratory Skills at Holmesglen Institute and undertakes Structured Workplace Learning at Bentleigh Secondary College. His goal is to work as a laboratory technician.
This selection reflects Stephen’s initiative and commitment. It also highlights the value of student voice in shaping the future of education in Victoria.
Welcome to Fr Dilan Perera OMI
The College is pleased to welcome Fr Dilan Perera OMI, who has recently begun a counselling placement in Tempier House, working alongside the College psychologists. Fr Dilan will be with us each Friday until the 12th June as part of his current studies in the Master of Counselling and Psychotherapy program at Deakin University.
Originally from Colombo, Sri Lanka, Fr Dilan brings with him more than two decades of rich pastoral, social, and counselling experience. After entering the Oblate Juniorate at age 16, he professed his first vows in 1994 and was ordained a priest in 2001. His ministry has taken many forms: parish priest, missionary preacher, counsellor to children and families, editor of Sri Lanka’s oldest Oblate magazine for laypeople, and director of St Vincent’s Home, a centre supporting orphans and juvenile young people. His work in social justice and welfare remains one of his great passions.
Fr Dilan has completed extensive tertiary studies, including Master’s degrees in Sociology and Philosophy, a diploma in Journalism, and formal studies in psychology, theology, and pastoral counselling. His pastoral work has involved supporting individuals and families experiencing significant social, emotional, and spiritual challenges - experience that will enrich his placement here at the College.
A warm and friendly presence, Fr Dilan enjoys sport - particularly cricket and basketball - and is embracing life in Melbourne as he continues his academic and professional formation. We are delighted to have Fr Dilan join our community. If you see him around the College, please make him feel welcome. If any enquiries about accessing Fr Dilan’s support, please contact counsellors@mazenod.vic.edu.au.
