Captain's Corner

For the last 2 weeks the school has been going to swimming lessons. It has been very fun and challenging. We have tried different things like diving, collecting sinkies, and even swimming with clothes on. Clothes didn’t pull me back that much, and it actually encouraged me to keep going.
Now going back to the start of the year when I got my badges. I was really excited when I got my Yellow House Captain, Sustainability Captain, and STEAM Captain badges. I was really excited that I got 3 badges! As Sport Captain, I get to run sports events and help with sport lessons. I also love to help Miss D (the Sport Teacher). As Sustainability Captain, we help make the school clean and green. And lastly, as STEAM Captain (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Maths), we help the STEAM teacher (Miss O’Dwyer) in STEAM-related projects, and we will organise the art show this year! Only the STEAM captains and the teachers know the special theme of the art show so far. Anyway, I have experienced other roles apart from mine because I have once run assembly with Cooper and helped out in the open day with Xavier, and it was really fun.
Lastly, I would like to tell you about buddies. Buddies are people that help you with things, and each Prep has their own buddy. I have Nicholas in Prep N, and he is a really fun, energetic, friendly, and kind buddy. The Year 5s also have buddies, and everyone gets along pretty well with their buddy and has a great time. I love doing buddy time because I interact with younger children, and I usually interact with kids my age, but it is a fun change!

In Year 6 I’ve had heaps of fun. I am so proud to be School Captain because I get to host assembly.
I love my buddy because he is so kind and generous. He puts everyone first and shares his toys, and he is just such a good person. His name is Jack, and no one is nicer or more generous than him.
I also had fun swimming. I had so much fun swimming. We did freestyle, backstroke and breaststroke. We also had fun on the bus, but the Year 5s kept hogging the back, which was a bit annoying, but we sucked it up and didn't complain (to them directly).
I was also announced as School Captain and got my badge at the start of the year. Xavier, who is the other School Captain, and I host assemblies where we give Star Awards and do the birthday box!

Every week two of the Sport Captains host class sport every Thursday. One person chooses the main game and the other chooses the warm-up. This week we played line tiggy as a warm-up and gang up as the main game. After sport we all get exhausted after all the games. If we have extra time, we do another round of gang up. Once we are done, we line up at the water taps and go upstairs and pack away our bags for home time.
We went swimming for the past two weeks and we did survival swimming. We just used old clothing and swam. We learnt how to do survival backstroke, and we practised saving people in pools.

Hello everyone, I am Spencer, and today I will be talking about our school and what has been going on.
Let’s start off with sports. In P.E. and class sport, all of our classes have been participating and trying their best to learn and develop their sports skills and their sport mentality. Over the past couple of weeks we have had hockey clinics, tennis clinics, and finally our beep test and fitness test. I know that everyone has put in the effort to complete these practices to the best of their ability and had fun doing it! As well, all of our classes have done swimming. To any and all students who are reading, keep pushing, and… Goooooo Joeys!!!
Now onto art. As many parents and students know, every second year we hold an art show. At our art show every single child has the ability to create, develop, and showcase their creative art skills in any way they see fit, whether it’s drawing, painting, sculpting, or just learning about famous painters or drawers like Leonardo da Vinci, Pablo Picasso, Michelangelo, or even digital artists like Loish, SamDoesArt, or YDK Morimoe, or maybe just maybe stencil, statue, and singer artists like Banksy, Taylor Swift, or Gian Lorenzo Bernini. Either way, I can guarantee you that your child will be making the most of their art resources, and I strongly believe kids should take part in our art class or get into art at home.
Now onto S.T.E.M. In S.T.E.M our classes have been working on environmental support and recycling, whether it's using T-shirts as bags, recycling bottles for our 10c deposit refund scheme, or just picking up rubbish. All of our students are helping to keep our world safer and cleaner. Keep up the good work!
And to end it off, let’s talk about our work in class.I don’t know about other classes, but I know that the Y5/6 work ethic and mentality towards learning and developing our knowledge has been top notch!!! The Year 5s have had NAPLAN, and so has Grade 3. They have both been working hard and have done amazing work (well, I’m guessing 😅). In my classroom we have had the 99 Club. If you don’t know what the 99 Club is, in a short answer you have 5 minutes to answer 44 questions. Get them all right and move onto 55, then 66, then so on and so forth. The aim is to hit 99. Once you complete that, you then have Bronze, Silver, Gold, and finally Platinum. Once you get to the material section (Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Platinum), you get exactly 100 questions, each with not just addition and multiplication, but subtraction, division, algebra, square root, and even Pythagoras’ theorem. If you want your child to work on their maths, search it up (granted you need to know all of these things).
Anyways, to end it off let me just say a good job to all students.

Hello everyone, My name is Benji and I do Sports, Art and STEAM. During art we have been learning about Leonardo da Vinci and his style of art. And I forgot about the theme of the art show. It was between books or famous artists, and you probably know because I was talking about it around the start.
Now sports. During sports we have done tennis clinics. We had to do this fun game called open. You start to do rallies with your partners and the people next to you, and if one person messes up the person says “open”. Then the person next to you is your partner, and if the other people in front of you mess up you get a point.
And my little buddy is the best. His name is Luca. He doesn't talk much, but that's fine. I love him to the Milky Way and back a thousand times, and that's far.
That is all. Join us next time. Bye.

This year has gone off to an incredible start, with so many great achievements I have accomplished. Let’s start off with sports. In PE, we had a tennis clinic for two weeks. We played so many fun games in sport, and the man who came in was my tennis coach from 5 years ago (Geez, I’m old.) !
We also had our swimming trails, where it was great to see so many new people come and give it a go. I got into the swimming team, along with many of my great friends. I can’t wait to go to the Holt District, and have a great time with my friends! Additionally, I competed and won the Holt District Tennis, where I was the only one who went! I earned a gold medal, and I was super proud of myself.
I also got my first job as a Sport Captain! I get to unlock and lock the sports bins on Monday to ensure everyone gets to play with the sports equipment, but also to make sure that no little children get hurt after school.
Next, let’s dive deep into the amazing world of maths. This year, Ms Daws introduced the 99 Club, where you try to progress through the stages 44, 55, 66, 77, 88 and 99. For each level, you have five minutes to complete the test. Stage 44 has 44 questions, Stage 55 has 55 questions, and so on. If you get one or more wrong, you go down a level. For example, I am on Stage 55, but I get one question wrong and I don’t finish in time. Then, tomorrow I am on Stage 44. Currently, I am on Stage 99, and if I get all the questions correct, I will progress to bronze, then silver, then gold, then platinum - the highest levels of the 99 Club.
Next week is a busy week, with many events on. Holt District Swimming is on Monday, while we go to St Patrick’s Cathedral. I am so excited to see what next week brings!!!

In Term 1, we got presented our badges for captaincy for 2026, and I got School Captain. Every Friday Cooper and I get to do an assembly where we present Star Awards and birthdays, or any announcements we need to say. As my role is School Captain, I get to help around the school and make it the best it can be.
And on to our buddies (they are so cute!). I got Sebastian. He is from Prep L and he loves Mario Kart. Sebby loves to hang around with me and my friends, and we like to do that too! I am very grateful to have a buddy like Seb.
For the past 2 weeks we have been doing swimming lessons. I had lots of fun with my peers while swimming. On the last day everyone got to wear their clothes in the pool to learn survival skills, dangers in the pool, and finally, rescuing. Some other school members and I have been going to swimming training (those who are on the team). On Monday the team gets to go to Holt, where all the schools who are competing get to race against each other.
During the week we sometimes do 99 Club. If you don’t know what that means, then I’ll tell you. Basically, it’s a series of tests which go up to 99 (e.g., 44, 55, 66, 77, 88, 99). But that's not all. It goes up to Bronze, Silver, Gold, and the hardest of all, Platinum.
And that's all covered for the term!
