Year 3 Sacrament of Reconciliation

Our Year 3 students recently celebrated the Sacrament of Reconciliation, a special and prayerful milestone in their faith journey. In the weeks leading up to the sacrament, students were guided by their classroom teachers, including Christie Birch, as they explored God’s mercy, forgiveness and love, and reflected on how we are called to make loving and positive choices in our daily lives.

As part of their preparation, students participated in a Reconciliation Retreat Day, which provided a meaningful opportunity for prayer, reflection and learning. We were grateful to welcome Fr Gallacher and Anthony, the seminarian, who spent time with the students speaking about the importance of Reconciliation and God’s great mercy.

Students were also guided through St Joseph’s Church, where they explored the sacred space and learnt about many of the important features of the church. During the tour, Anthony explained the meaning behind the statues, stained glass windows and symbols found throughout the church. Students even had the opportunity to visit the choir loft, which was a highlight for many.

Throughout the retreat, students learnt about and practised the steps of the Sacrament of Reconciliation, helping them to approach the sacrament with confidence, understanding and reverence. Students also decorated their own candles, reminding them that Christ is our light, guiding us as we strive to make positive choices and grow in faith. A display was also created highlighting the many positive choices students make each day as members of our school community.

A special thank you to Nicole (Finn’s mum), Eunice (Lucia’s mum) and Elma (Ivan’s mum) for generously assisting by cutting the felt symbols placed on the students’ stoles. Their support helped make this meaningful part of the students’ preparation possible.

The Sacrament evening itself was a beautiful and reverent celebration. It was wonderful to see so many families gathered together in faith to support the students as they experienced God’s forgiveness and reconciliation. As a school community, we are very proud of the way our Year 3 students approached this important step in their faith journey with such reflection, reverence and sincerity.

We would also like to sincerely thank Ms Marinelli, Mr Butler and Ms Birch for their attendance and support on the evening. Their presence and assistance helped make the celebration a meaningful and special occasion for our students and families.
