At SMDP, the MACS Vision for Instruction shapes our practice and supports us to create learning environments where every student is an active and engaged learner. Central to this vision is our focus on ensuring that all students have frequent and meaningful opportunities to thinkrespond and participate.

Teachers are intentionally using evidence‑based strategies that promote full participation - such as turn‑and‑talk, whiteboard responses, cold calling and structured thinking routines. These approaches ensure that students take responsibility for the cognitive work of learning, rather than observing others think.

Our staff are continually strengthening their knowledge and use of these instructional practices to ensure they are embedded consistently across our school. Through ongoing professional learning, collaboration and reflection, teachers are refining how they design and deliver lessons so that every student has regular opportunities to think, respond and actively participate in their learning.

As part of our Inquirylearning this term, students are exploring the health messages they encounter in their everyday environments and how these messages help keep individuals and communities safe and well. Students are learning to identify common messages such as reminders to wash hands, brush teeth, wear sunscreen, drink water and make healthy food choices, and to consider why these messages are important. Through discussions, observations and hands‑on activities, students are developing an understanding of how health messages are communicated, who they are designed for and how they influence the choices we make to care for our bodies.
