Love Letters toThe Land
Last week, classes 1/2 C and 1/2 D participated in the Junior Landcare's special 25 year anniversary letter writing campaign, Love Letter to the Land. The kids, assisted by their teachers, wrote beautiful messages of love and thanks to nature. Through a letter template supplied by Junior Landcare, our students professed their thanks and gratitude for everything that nature provides to them. In the letter they acknowledged the traditional Country the school is located on, (Bunurong / Boon Wurrung Country) reflected on how being outside makes them feel and considered everyday actions they can do to help and protect nature, such as picking up rubbish, planting trees for wildlife, avoiding single use plastics and riding or walking to school.
As part of the activity, the kids got outside and made nature bracelets from treasures collected from around the school. This activity provided another connection to nature and reminded the students about the diversity of nature at the school and how important it is to protect what's on the grounds for future students.
Thank you to Dave and Luca for facilitating such a thought provoking activity.
