As part of the NSW government’s curriculum reform, a new English syllabus will be implemented for Years 7 and 9 in 2024 and Years 8 and 10 in 2025. Students in Year 8 and 10 in 2024 will continue with the existing syllabus.

In preparation for their close study assessment last term, 8G used a bullseye worksheet to develop a range of theme statements. This exercise uses key words from the text to identify the messages and ideas the composer of a text wishes to communicate to the reader. The class worked in groups and generated four theme statements each.

In the final weeks of term 3, 10L1 used their dramatic skills to direct and perform a 10 minute comedic version of Macbeth – complete with crowns and cardboard swords! Their only audience members were the lucky Mr Usher and Ms Kedward.
Students in Standard and Advanced English took up the opportunity to gain further insight into their first module Texts and Human Experience by attending a study day with the English Teachers’ Association. They viewed a series of lectures unpacking the rubric, their prescribed texts and exam strategies. The day finished with a debrief with Mrs Bridle how to approach an exam essay question.
