Extracurricular activities to support students adjust to device bans

Term 4 saw the effective roll out of the Camden High School phone and digital device pouches in alignment with government and departments policies: Student Use of Mobile Phones in Schools Policy. In accordance with policy, it is a Camden High School expectation that all mobiles and non-educational devices are placed inside the pouch during the school day including breaks.

Understanding that this policy change may be an adjustment for students, the school is offering a range of alternative activities to engage in and support them during their break times.

  1. Chill Out Tuesday: second break in the library, promoting social skills, connections, and mindfulness.
  2. Friday Games: second break in the library, allowing students to engage in a variety of board games that promotes social interaction and critical thinking skills.
  3. Monday Breakfast Club Meet and Greet: In the quad outside I block. Come down and start the day off with a bang with a variety of breakfast options and friendly faces.
  4. History Club: first break Wednesday week A in H.112 for all history lovers! Students can suggest topics to be covered, from history's biggest mysteries, ancient and medieval civilizations, weapons, buildings, monuments and more! The choice is yours.
  5. Big Red Sports Bin: Our school's outdoor facilities will be open for students to engage in physical activities like soccer, basketball, and other team sports. Students are encouraged to look for the big red sports bin supplied by the PDHE faculty.
  6. Football (soccer) morning program: Thursday mornings. Come along and join Mr Garland in improving your skill and overall game. Anyone and everyone are welcome.
  7. Robotics Team: second break every Wednesday in the FF block seminar room (upstairs). Come join us in designing and building our first robot.
  8. Chess Competitions: ongoing competitions starting week 5. A thrilling event that brings students together to challenge their chess skills. Learn from each other and have a fantastic time. Whether you are a seasoned chess player or just starting to explore the game, come register with Mr Berrell in the Library.
  9. Handball competitions: ongoing competitions from week 5. For those who are fans of fast paced action and team work, express your interest with Mr Berrell.
  10. Science Club: break one every Tuesday, an exciting opportunity for all budding Scientists, innovators, and curious minds. Register your interest at the Science staff room.
  11. Book Club: Friday break two in H10 for all book enthusiast or those who are simply curious about the world of literature.

We believe that these alternative activities will not only help students adjust to the new policy but also encourage personal growth and engagement within our school community. We appreciate your support in enforcing this policy and look forward to seeing the positive impact it will have on our students' learning experiences.
