Spreading joy and happiness with sunflower seeds

Kingswood Primary School is sending the gift of sunflower seeds to everyone in our school community. Sunflowers symbolise loyalty and adoration and because of their association with the sun they have long been considered a happy flower. Over the next few days our Year 6 environment leaders are dropping off the gift of sunflower seeds to all our classrooms. Attached to the seeds is a QR code to the planting instructions or you can read them off the sheet attached. All that we ask is that you plant these seeds in your front garden so that they can be enjoyed by passers by. Thank you for supporting our community and spreading joy and happiness!

Student Learning and Wellbeing Subcommittee

We run a student and wellbeing subcommittee as part of school council, however our meetings are open to any interested parent to attend. At our last meeting, we looked at the Kingswood Learning Hub, discussed the impact of our tutoring program and what it might look like for 2024, the class creator computer program that we use to support our teaching teams to create well balanced classes for the new year and our 2023 attendance data to the end of term 3 and the actions that we take to address attendance concerns. Our November meeting is scheduled for the 28th of November, and we will be sharing the agenda and meeting information on Compass so keep an eye out for it if this is an area of interest for you.

Attendance/Late arrival at school

I shared in our last newsletter the government information on the importance of attendance at school and how quickly those days can add up and have a critical impact on student achievement. The other issue that often accompanies attendance is late arrivals, even arriving 5-10 minutes late can have a disruptive impact on children as they miss the explicit teaching or instructions being given and often are left feeling confused and displaced as they try to catch up with what is occurring in the classroom. We understand that weather and traffic conditions can play a part in lateness, however, we suggest a few tips such as laying out clothes the night before, establishing a consistent morning routine supported by reward systems or visual checklists if required, ensuring children have had enough sleep the night before etc. If you need any support in regards to attendance or lateness, please reach out to your child’s classroom teacher or a member of our team.

Yard Supervision Before and After School

Just a termly reminder that Kingswood Primary School provides staff to supervise students on site between 8.45am and 3.45pm. Before and after school there are two staff on duty – one in the senior area of the school and the other in the junior area. In line with our yard duty and supervision policy there should not be students unsupervised on school grounds outside of these times. We encourage families to connect with Team Kids, our outside of school hours program, if supervision is proving to be challenging for your family.
