Halfway through Term 4 !
As we enter the halfway point of this term it reminds me that the end of the year will soon be upon us! As the weather warms it has been amazing to see students enjoying some of their physical and art activities in different areas; including our new central hallway and activity space. With the support of our Physiotherapists Steph and Ash, it has been wonderful to see small groups of students riding their bikes and enjoying the fresh air in Kaleno View and surrounding areas. One of my highlights this term has been to witness the growth and participation in our new student-led assemblies and Music Club that are facilitated by Troy our talented Music Therapist. It is always a pleasure to visit the classrooms to see the dynamic, thoughtful and engaging activities that the students are participating in. I particularly love the students sharing their work with me and seeing the pride they have in their achievements.
Classroom Teachers have been busy completing the semester two ABLES Assessments (Abilities Based Learning and Education Support) which will assist them to identify and monitor the learning readiness and progress for all students. These are completed twice per year and provide teachers with tools, guidance and evidence-based teaching and learning strategies to help teach students based on their individual learning needs and is aligned with the Victorian Curriculum.
The Allied Health Team are also currently finalising a number of assessments including the Roadmap of Communicative Competence (ROCC) which is a rubric tool that assists in assessing, planning and evaluating communication outcomes, whilst updating individual student profiles in preparation for 2024.
Utilising the Team Around the Learner Framework and all relevant information gathered, classroom and therapy staff work together to develop and assess individual student goals and outcomes.
Remembrance day is a memorial day observed on the 11th of November in Commonwealth member states since the end of the first World War in 1919 to honor armed forces members who have died in the line of duty. Students have been learning about the significance of this event in class and working on some art activities to contribute to our school mural. On Monday we will observe a minute silence at 11am.
We have a number of exciting special events this term including Year 12 Graduation, Primary Graduation and the Belmore School Presentation Assembly. Over the next few weeks we will send out some more information regarding these events.
2024 class groupings are currently being formulated. We expect that we will run with seven classes as we have this year. If you have any information or requests you would like to be considered in relation to your child's class placement for next year could you please contact me via email, telephone or in person by Friday the 17th of November.
