Principal's Report

Vietnamese afternoon tea

Thank you to all the parents who came to the Vietnamese afternoon tea. It was lovely to meet with both new parents and those who have been a part of the Deer Park West PS community for many years. It was lovely to hear how well the children were doing at our school and that they love coming to school. 

Today we introduced our Assistant Principal’s Ms Scott and Mrs Antonopoulos, and we talked about many things including:

• Homework: the purpose of homework is mainly for practising skills such as reading. Reading books from school and online platforms such as Reading Eggs and Mathletics provide children with other types of homework. 
• Tutoring: the school does not offer tutoring and not all children need or benefit from tutoring. Other things parents can consider is team sports such as basketball or soccer and physical activities such as swimming. Physical and mental health and wellbeing also needs to be supported and a focus on all academic aspects can be overwhelming for younger students.
• Compass: we also had a look at student reports on Compass and ensured that all parents could access their Compass account. 

The parents were keen to meet again before the end of the school year. We will meet on Wednesday 6th December. Look forward to catching up.

Attendance 

To ensure that you children learn as much as they can before the end of the school year, please make sure that they arrive on time in the morning, and they are not picked up early. 

This very important as teachers will be starting end of year assessments that help your children demonstrate their growth over the year. We all love to see the progress children make and it is very encouraging for them to have this recognised. 

End of Year Reports

At the end of the school year, parents are provided with a written report indicating level of progress and their achievement across the curriculum. These reports are available on Compass. If for any reason you need a printed copy, please let the office know and we can print one for you. Parent teacher interviews are also available on request. Please contact your classroom teacher should you wish to discuss your child’s report.

School Council

The last school council meeting is on the 5th December at school. This is a dinner meeting where we conduct the final business for the school year as well as providing dinner as a thank you for the members service throughout the year. At the start of the year, we will be electing a new council so you will have an opportunity to join us. 

Reminder – NO SCHOOL Friday 24th November

No school for students on Friday, 24th November. On this day teachers will be analysing assessments, marking student work, writing reports and forward planning for 2024.

Tiệc trà cùng các gia đình Việt Nam.

Chân thành cám ơn các phụ huynh Việt Nam đã đến tham dự buổi trà chiều. Rất vui mừng đã được gặp gỡ những thành viên mới, cũng như những gia đình đã là một phần của

cộng đồng trường tiểu học Deer Park West trong nhiều năm. Tôi cũng rất hạnh phúc khi được biết rằng các em học sinh đã có nhiều tiến bộ ở trường học.

Hôm nay chúng tôi đã giới thiệu đến quý phụ huynh hai cô Hiệu phó, Ms Scott và Mrs Antonopoulos. Chúng ta đã bàn luận về nhiều vấn đề:

  * Bài tập ở nhà: mục đích chính của bài tập ở nhà là để các em luyện tập 

các kỹ năng, chẳng hạn như kỹ năng đọc. Đọc sách mượn từ trường học hoặc đọc trực tuyến như Reading Eggs và Mathletics, cung cấp cho  học sinh nhiều thể loại của Bài tập ở nhà.

  * Dạy kèm: nhà trường không cung cấp dịch vụ dạy kèm, không phải học sinh nào cũng cần và nhận được lợi ích từ việc dạy kèm. Điều quý phụ huynh cần phải cân nhắc là những môn thể thao có tính cách đồng đội như bóng rổ, bóng đá và những hoạt động thể lực như bơi lội…

Sức khỏe tinh thần và thể chất cùng sự tươi vui là điều cần thiết, luôn cần sự ủng hộ và giúp đỡ. Quá tập trung vào mặt học tập chuyên môn có thể sẽ làm các học sinh nhỏ bị quá sức và mệt mỏi.

  * Compass: chúng tôi đã cùng với phụ huynh xem báo cáo học tập của con em qua Compass và chắc chắn rằng tất cả các gia đình đều có thể đăng nhập vào Compass.

Các phụ huynh đã hứng khởi đề nghị một buổi họp mặt nữa trước khi năm học kết thúc. Chúng ta sẽ gặp lại vào ngày thứ tư 06/12. Rất mong chờ được hội ngộ quý phụ huynh.

Đến trường. 

Để đảm bảo học sinh có thể học hỏi ở mức độ cao nhất trước khi năm học kết thúc, xin quý phụ huynh hãy đưa con em đến trường đúng giờ và không đón về sớm.

Điều này rất quan trọng vì giáo viên sẽ nhận xét và đánh giá sự tiến bộ của học sinh trong năm học vừa qua. Chúng tôi muốn thấy sự tiến triển của học sinh và sự khen ngợi này sẽ là nguồn khích lệ đối với các em.

Báo cáo cuối năm.

Cuối năm, phụ huynh sẽ nhận được bản báo cáo về mức độ tiến triển và thành tựu của con em qua Compass. Nếu quý vị cần một bản in, xin hãy cho văn phòng biết. Nếu quý phụ huynh cần thảo luận về học bạ của con em, xin hãy liên hệ với thầy cô giáo.

Hội đồng trường học.

Buổi họp cuối cùng là vào ngày 05/12 ở tại trường. Đây sẽ là buổi gặp gỡ ăn tối để chúng tôi kết thúc một năm và cảm ơn sự đóng góp của các thành viên. Vào đầu năm tới, chúng tôi sẽ bầu Hội đồng nhà trường mới, quý phụ huynh sẽ có cơ hội để tham gia.

Xin nhắc nhở: học sinh không đến trường vào ngày thứ sáu 24/11.

Học sinh sẽ nghỉ ở nhà ngày thứ sáu 24/11. Vào ngày này, giáo viên sẽ viết báo cáo về học lực và thành quả của học sinh và chuẩn bị cho chương trình giảng dạy năm 2024.
