From the Head of the Junior School

This year the Springwood campus of the Junior School has turned 20 years old. Our Lower Mountains campus is indeed a special place, so it was exciting to honour the work that has gone here over the last 20 years. We had a special birthday picnic last Friday, 3rd November, to celebrate this milestone.

The Springwood children decorated their campus beautifully and welcomed the parents, and ex staff to their school with pride. We had staff from previous years visit – Ms Liz Flett, Miss Sue Bailey, Mr Andrew Phillips and Mrs Suzie Goodlet were all so pleased to be involved. Many other ex-staff members gave their apologies and wished us all a great celebration. Dennis and Wendy Barrett were also honoured guests – they are parents of one of our first Springwood students and they love to still be involved. It was fabulous to be together eating wonderful food and cake, and the most wonderful desserts made by Mr David Polvelsen. Thank you to everyone who came along to celebrate.

This week both Wentworth Falls and Springwood campuses held their Orientation Days for 2024. All students went “up a grade” to meet teachers and form friendships with new class groups for the coming year. This was great practice for our new Pre K and Kinder students, and especially for those new children coming in at other grade levels. Year 6 look forward to their Year 7 Orientation in a few weeks – we can’t wait to hear more about the new Odyssey Program that has been designed to maximise their learning and Secondary School experience.

We have lots coming up over the final weeks of school. Many of these things are about celebrating milestones and I look forward to seeing the parents and families at those events. In the meantime, there’s still plenty of learning to be done and it’s wonderful to see the children so deeply engaged, every time I walk around our school.
