From the Principal

Introducing Mat Irving

Last week, incoming Principal, Mat Irving, shared morning tea with the staff of the Great Southern Grammar.  Mat spoke passionately about his excitement of re-engaging with a school in a regional setting along with working with the talents of our staff.  Whilst at school, Mat filmed a video message for parents.  View the video here:

World Teacher’s Day

Last Friday we celebrated World Teachers’ Day, the theme was Hats off to Teachers. It is important to recognise the valuable contributions teachers make to education and to society as a whole. We celebrate the hard work and dedication of teachers and raise awareness of the challenges teachers face in their profession. It is a time to reflect on the importance of education and the educators who make it possible. It is important to support teachers to ensure they can continue to provide quality education to students. As a school, we can continue to promote the teaching profession as one that is essential for sustainable success. Teachers are educating for the future of all of us.

St John’s Church 175 years

On Sunday, I attended a church service to celebrate St John’s 175th Year.  St John’s is the oldest consecrated church in Western Australia.  It has been an icon for Albany with its position on lower York Street.  Bishop Ian Coutts, and Reverend Karen Cave provided an insight into the importance that this church has provided the community of Albany.  It has been a place where patrons are welcome to pray and reflect on different aspects of life and the importance that faith enhances our community.

Acting Principal

I am attending a family wedding overseas and will be on leave from Monday 6 November until Friday 24 November, Deputy Principal, Ms Emma Franklin, will be acting Principal during my absence.

2024 Forward Planning

With the end of Term Four fast approaching, the School is looking to finalise student enrolments for 2024. If your child(ren) won't be returning in 2024, written withdrawal advice should be provided as soon as possible (four weeks notice for day students and six weeks notice for boarding students). The School welcomes the opportunity to have a conversation about your personal circumstances to see how we can assist. In the first instance, please be in touch with Mrs Julia Bairstow via julia.bairstow@gsg.wa.edu.au
